Edited to add: Young Carter has won many fans and I'd bet he is a good guy, like his grandpa.

(81,523 posts)And also to the unsung hero who videotaped those mitt remarks (remitts?) in the first place. Can't leak something that doesn't exist!
That slam-dunked it for our side, I think, now in hindsight. It was one of the easiest buzz phrases to embrace. The 47% number surpassed the common usage of the 99% figure that was dominant in the headlines a year ago. It was so key that this phrase was, indeed, named the Yale Book of Quotations Quote of the Year!

It's helped feed OUR side's narrative of who and what mitty-boy really was, and what he really believed when he was among his own kind and thought he was free to be completely candid. Because soon enough he opened his yap again and just gave us all a good old-fashioned "I Told You So." THIS was the bedrock. The foundational statement of this generation of GOP. Notice how since the advent of paul ryan on the national stage, the phrase "makers and takers" has suddenly been wafting through the air a lot more frequently like a bad smell? That's not just the back end of some Wisconsin state bean-eating competition, either. I have actually seen it on cable news - where there are people nodding in agreement when that clip is played. Usually it's some CON operative talking head on one of the talk shows. This isn't just what wrongney believes. This isn't just what paul ryan believes. This is what an entire SYNDROME of them believes. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of them believe this. Maybe it's millions and millions. They actually believe this distorted stuff. And never is the sense of entitlement in the Red States included in this.
And until this clip surfaced, this DAMNING clip, there was no hard proof. wrongney was always slippery enough to dodge and deny. But not this time, or with this one.
James Earl Carter the 4th - is a national hero! This will be the gift that keeps on giving, because you'll never see this clip go away. It'll be hauled out at every possible opportunity and keep on paying us dividends as long as we choose to make strategic use of it.

(12,051 posts)had already saved the world once; anything else I did with my life would simply be icing on the cake.
Hip, hip, hooray for Jimmy the 4th for getting the video publicized, and roses to the anonymous film maker who made the video -- that person is the truest hero!!

(13,776 posts)How does it feel to have had a HUGE part in defeating a man whose presidency would have been a disaster for 99% of Americans?
(I bet it feels pretty damn awesome. It probably also feels pretty damn awesome to be the grandson of such a good and honorable man as Jimmy Carter.)

(904 posts)...this man literally saved this country.
Imagine if MittWitt finagled his way into the White House - come January 20th, Paul Ryan's Path To Austerity would have been the law of the land.
Domestically, and foreign-policy wise, it would have been a rerun of Bush II.
Thank you James Carter IV.
adieu
(1,009 posts)the comment on foreign policy, "We'll kick that can down the road..." and the arrogance that just by being elected, "job creators will hire..." without Mitt lifting a finger.
I mean, there were 47% ignorant, on-the-dole boobs in the US electorate. They voted for Romney. We know that now. But the other two comments showed that he was not presidential caliber. That his interest in becoming a president was not to do responsible, presidential things, but just sit around and do nothing and let things waft by. Fuck him. I ain't voting for anybody so he can have the 4-year frat party that he never did when he was in college.

(27,315 posts)I am never quite sure why he is forgotten from these thank you.
Although it may not have been his (or her) intention at the time, the person who filmed it ended up doing a great service to this country. I wonder if we'll ever know who it was.
I suppose because he or she chose to be anonymous...? I sure hope we find out someday who it was.

(5,154 posts)and why he did it....
Yet people like Chris Matthews and all over television on every network talking heads still don't know who it was, they think it's some anonymous person who took the digital video....Talk about uninformed....Amazing!

(3,427 posts)I don't think he was invited to Romney's fundraising dinner!
James Carter IV was the one who found the video on the Internet, tracked down the person who filmed it and put that person in touch with David Corn of Mother Jones magazine. The rest is history.
The identity of the person who filmed the video has still not been made public.

(21,691 posts)The Sr/Jr distinguish a father and son with the same name. Molly Smith née Jones's daughter Molly Smith is presumed to change her name at some point; even if she doesn't; she really doesn't have her mother's name; she has her mother's first name and her father's surname.
Women's surnames are not really their own.

(1,887 posts)"Weak on defense" is the Republican's favorite catch phrase to hang on Democratic presidential candidates. After elected Republicans presidents find some way of getting us into war to enrich their supporters, the military industrial complex.

(802 posts)...Party needs to get Jimmy IV together with Robert Parry and Anonymous to build, once and for all, the definitive case for the complete corruption, bordering on effin evil, of the Republican Party. We're talking from Nixon's sabotage of the '68 Vietnam Peace Talks...the Reagan/Bush '80 election hostage/Iran/arms/Contra/October Surprise...the theft of the '00, the '08 and the '02 Georgia elections...and the open voter suppression and Rove-plan to, once again, flip the votes in Ohio to deliver a Republican win - like in '04 - just this year. The combined evidence of their actions just might be enough to get the MSM to, finally, openly present the reality of just how low these SOBs will stoop to get and keep their hands on the Government Treasury and to convince even the most hard-nosed wingnuts that their guys suck. Of course that'll be a tough one, but if we could just get those in the middle to understand, it should be enough.
