Does anyone know what is going on with Current TV?

They don't run any of their shows on Friday evening anymore? No Jennifer, Young Turks, or Elliott?

They used to rerun their shows on Fridays, and you could watch them when MSNBC went to the prison &&%%##.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, I guess.

end up being.. Remember Oprah's big idea? Her network runs a whole-lotta-crappola too.. Current could not afford the talent needed to run a CNN-ish (CNN-of-old) style venue.

They COULD have done it if they had been eager to introduce young & hungry talent who would have worked for the exposure, but they wanted higher profile people who needed money to toss aside the opportunities they had elsewhere.

I'm sure Al Gore thought he could grow it into something mainstream, but that takes HUGE money these days.

I have been wondering if his suit against Current has been settled. There has been absolutely nothing that I have seen to suggest that it has. But I do know he had an excellent attorney and expected to win. If Current had to pay a huge settlement from that suit, that could have impacted its bottom line quite a bit.

That was a huge mistake, firing Olbermann. I just don't understand why they thought Elliot Spitzer could pull in the same numbers.

Hi,

Current TV has been having money & low viewership problems. Al Gore does not have Billionaire deep pockets of cash & is trying to fund the channel by normal methods. One of the Satellite providers has threatened to drop it from their line-up because of low viewership.

It may not survive. If they have a donation option, send money or they might not survive.

They have to have the worst sets. Cenk's looks like a Mario Brothers dungeon background without the color. Current needs to hire a couple of mad queens to fix things.

We've "won" the last election, and our job is done... a part of the theory goes.

Plus... we've got MSNBC.

This, if true, is a BAD mistake.

to tell a few inconsequential truths, but they largely adhered to a false dogma and tried to run a new business in an old way. They created a management staff from the established system, and basically eschewed innovation. Current TV could, and very well might, serve as a textbook example of how to ensure failure in a new and rapidly evolving environment.

It's very similar to our air force spending hundreds of billions to develop the newest, and costliest, wiz-bang manned super fighter plane when the future of air combat is clearly unmanned, automated or semi automated missile/drone hybrids.

I do know this as a listener...

When Cenk was at MSNBC... he was not invited to the White House Press Party, but he WAS invited to the NBC party afterwards...

And as he tells it... Valerie Jarrett DEFINITELY knew who he was, and DID NOT LIKE HIM ONE BIT.

IOW - She was very well aware that TYT was NOT playing ball.

Which was, once again, proved by the way Cenk handled the MSNBC situation.

management staff comes from the world of established TV, they have yet to explore alternative methods of generating funding sources, they have almost zero appeal to young audiences, and so on.

I don't understand your reference to Cenk (I know who he is) & the dinners, I put that down to the fact that I, like so many other, particularly young people, do not watch TV.

There's an old saying in business; The surest way to bankruptcy is to expend your resources gaining an ever increasing share of an ever shrinking market. Current TV is not even expanding their share of that shrinking market.

Old business model, not seeing (and capitalizing on) the trends. Now Apple and Google are the big boys on the block for phone AND photo. RIM never saw it coming and Kodiak was just too set in their ways to carve out a niche so they could compete and survive.

Besides, who wants their email routed through Canada? Never got why POTUS insisted on that. There had to be security concerns involved.
