Most people around my age know this song. It was part of the music that helped define our generation's fight to save the world. Yet, even in the 2020 election, the felon won the majority of votes from the "over 50" population. Thus, knowing that we need a large turn out of those younger than 50. This is why I favored Tim Walz for vice president, out of a strong group of choices.
Now, even among some in our party, there have been nay-sayers with negative attitudes about attempts to reach young people in elections. It is true that they tend to undervote. The exceptions are when they are excited about a candidate who represents change in a manner that will improve their lives as young people.
There have been a couple candidates in primaries since Senator John F. Kennedy won the nomination that excited young voters. Of these, only George McGovern went to the Big Dance, and he proved that the youth vote alone couldn't capture the White House. Then came Barack Obama. He knew how to speak the language that young voters understand.
President Biden brought stability and delivered progress. VP Harris has been part of that. And now, as candidate Harris, her campaign has injected excitement into the political environment. And Tim Walz will be able to communicate with young voters, and a wide group of independents -- especially those who were once Democrats, but who think the party leadership has moved far to far right. Walz is the exact type of candidate who speaks their language.
Think back, forum members of all ages, to when you were in the classroom. Did you prefer the teacher who always seemed in a good mood, or the scowling nerd that you thought might have dead body parts hidden in his freezer? The one who made social studies interesting to where you could apply it to your own life, or the sinister looking creep that stared too long after asking inappropriate questions? The football coach, or the weird guy who spoke of wrestling his couch? Post school, the advocate for labor and the working class, or the company ass-kisser who is said to be having an affair with a blow-up sex doll? For these are the questions that younger voters will answer in November.
On virtually every issue, Gov Walz is a strong Democrat who I think is the perfect match for Kamala Harris. If we all work hard between now and election day, we will bury the felon and his maga cult.
(I'm getting a kick out of the knee-jerk reactions of the republican jerk-offs attacking Walz. His advocating for school lunches reminds them of that most dangerous of Black Panther programs -- free breakfasts for school children.)

Lakota friends -- who lurks on DU from time to time -- messaged me on FB to say I should add that Tim's first teaching job was on Pine Ridge. The Traditionals there have a very high opinion of him.

I know there were other strong options, but think Walz was the strongest. He's the type of Democrat that I grew up respecting.

(74,696 posts)of Humphrey and Mondale in many ways, all good. He is the type of Democrat that our party used to produce. And he is funny, and he is kind. But he differs from HHH and Mondale in that he can have a sharp edge when it comes to verbal sparring. If Vance debates him, you will see & hear this, and you will love it.
