What Costas said about guns is what my gun advocate father told me growing up.

Guns are powerful and must be respected.

Possessing a gun requires great responsibility to make sure it is used and stored appropriately.

Never reach for a gun out of anger.

Hotheads that don't respect the destructive power of their weapons put others in danger. Nobody wants to hunt or shoot with such people.

So, yeah, I don't see the outrage over his comments. Lots of people with guns didn't have these lessons passed down to them, and they're lessons worth hearing (and being reminded of).

Just my two cents.

Bullets sit in a guns chamber until a living breathing human being grasps that gun, points it at a target or person, curls their warm blooded finger around the trigger, and squeezes. Let me know the next time you hear of a bullet leaving a gun on it's own volition and killing a person.

Charge $10,000 per bullet. Then you would know people who got shot really deserved it.

And the cry which goes up in the face a statement to the effect that possession of a gun makes it easier to kill someone constitutes a joke in poor taste. One wonders why, if possession of a fire-arm offers so negligible an increase in lethal capacity, some people insist on their need to possess and carry a gun for self-defense....
