1. Lying scum of the earth.

There should be harsh punishments for cops ruining people's lives but thanks to the Supreme Court and Congress there aren't.

Cops should be held to a higher standard and when they break the law their punishment should be double that of a citizen.

2. DUIs are big money makers

Bail, fines, court fees, ASAP classes, installing and “renting” a Blow and Go, lawyers, SR-22 on your insurance… it puts a big old wad of money into the town/county.

Whether the charges are dropped, the case is dismissed, or the defendant is acquitted, and even if your record is supposedly expunged, the arrest never really goes away. It will always be visible on your record to certain people.

Meanwhile, Mr. Hero Cop is getting promotions and awards for “keeping the community safe” by ruining innocent people’s lives. Who is going to question getting dangerous drunks off the roads? Yay for the hero protecting his community.

Our policing and legal systems are a nightmare. I don’t think people who haven’t been through it understand how bad it really is. The only thing about the story that surprises me is that the charges were dropped. All three victims must have been able to afford lawyers and not had public defenders representing them.

3. agreed. Acquaintances teen son was pulled over, had alcohol (wasn't drunk). fees were nonstop

classes, a "scared straight" type visit to the morgue, fees, fines, Plus the family hired an attorney...

to find Justice. Too bad local citizens tax money have to pay those huge settlements. .
The buck always stops at the top. There is always an elected official responsible for police and sheriff departments. Vote out those Governors, Sheriffs and Mayors that allow these cops to get away being crooked.

But to hear that oh-so-sympathetic police chief saying how sorry he feels for the victims of his dirty cop--that is really hard to stomach. Any heart-to-heart talk with Werner will be off the record, probably including a dressing down for besmirching the department's name when a video record of the false arrest is all over the internet. But it is a glaring in-your-face that the police chief never mentions disciplinary action, let alone dismissal for his dirty cop. Anything less is the equivalent of an endorsement, as far as I am concerned.

8. Many local government have

lost their insurance to cover lawsuits. This has led to the disbanding of police departments. Like the last straw.

Even though the charges were dropped, the thriving industry of background check companies will keep the arrests popping up every time they renew their car insurance, causing them to have quotes like $1000 a month. Even if you ask one to take it down, others you never knew of will just reintroduce the invalid data right back in.
