The Pope is Satan - And Other MAGA Ratfkry

Pope Francis deemed Satanic by Christian conservatives for preaching love, tolerance toward migrants - Dailydot The Pope called conservatism a 'suicidal attitude.'

“Conservative is one who clings to something and does not want to see beyond that,” the Pope said. “Because one thing is to take tradition into account, to consider situations from the past, but quite another is to be closed up inside a dogmatic box.”

The remark about conservatism being a “suicidal attitude” also drew comparisons to the devil and communists by some right-wing figures and outlets.

“The Pope position has lost all meaning,” a right-wing influencer... posted. “Just another satanist paid off POS.”

Others on Trump’s social site echoed the belief that the head of the Catholic Church is actually the devil.

The parable of The Good Samaritan is just bullshit to these people in that mix

Everyone in the religion is a Cafeteria Christian because nobody can follow the book 100% without being a schizophrenic. The contradictions in it are as numerous as they are divisive.

And to your verse, I'll counter with Matthew 15:22-28. You know, where the psychopathic hippie calls a woman from Canaan a dog and makes her grovel for his help with her sick daughter.

This is the problem with using a book teeming with explicit examples of immorality as a source of morality.

They say it is the religion of the majority. If that is the case, the largest franchise, by the numbers is the Roman Catholic Church and that would make this a Catholic Nation by their logic. That would make the Pope our spiritual leader.
Just saying.

Selling and autographing bibles, holding one upside down, bragging about grabbing women’s privates, saying that Hannibal Lector is “a great man.” I heard some commentator say that Trump was “the luckiest man in the world” when he was able to use his Truth Social to pay his multi-million fine. That sent shivers up my spine. I’m not overly religious but that had an impact on me.

Because that particular book says many terrible things that give them warm tingles all over. Maybe you should read it--all of it--to understand why.

Let me know how you like chapters 10 (sword not peace!) and 15 (kill disobedient children and non-Israelites are dogs!). Or that unhinged ragefest where the psychopathic hippie beats up people in the temple for non-violent offenses (chapter 21). Or the anti-Semitism littered throughout that book in particular. Or the numerous ravings about hurting people for eternity for daring to disagree with the psychopathic hippie.

Yeah, those things aren't right up the MAGA alley at all.

a synagogue, a baptist church, a Methodist church, two libraries, two rival middle schools, and a hardware store. The walk I would take from A to B, though I didn't realize at the time, was an example of a diverse human community, many holding opposing ideas, yet coexisting in a civil and peaceful manner.

As a youth, I thought it was only "them", the bad guys from other sides of the oceans who wanted to see that pluralism of thoughts, traditions, and lifestyles extinct, to be replaced with one and only One Voice.

I think one of the more disappointing things about growing up and becoming an adult, was the eventual disillusionment that the exact same goal (just the opposite side) is wanted by so many people here as well; that a huge number of people want the neighborhood walks I took as a kid would be replaced by One Church, One Library, One Voice.

Maybe we've stared into the abyss too long.

tending to our own garden more closely.

There have been forces at work, here, that have been tacitly (and not so tacitly) planting the seeds of fascism for quite some time.

We ignored that. The warning signs, the alarms, the dog whistles.

So maybe it is our fault for not recognizing them as such, for not rising to the occasion,

for not rooting them out before those hateful, narrow-minded, noxious weeds of intolerance sprang up to strangle that nobler idea of various churches, libraries, schools, and peoples,

"a diverse human community, many holding opposing ideas, yet coexisting in a civil and peaceful manner, " as you wrote.

We are now upon the precipice. The duty to RESPOND is ours.
