"SNIP...........
Nearly three in five Americans wrongly believe the US is in an economic recession, and the majority blame the Biden administration, according to a Harris poll conducted exclusively for the Guardian. The survey found persistent pessimism about the economy as election day draws closer.
The poll highlighted many misconceptions people have about the economy, including:
* 55% believe the economy is shrinking, and 56% think the US is experiencing a recession, though the broadest measure of the economy, gross domestic product (GDP), has been growing.
* 49% believe the S&P 500 stock market index is down for the year, though the index went up about 24% in 2023 and is up more than 12% this year.
* 49% believe that unemployment is at a 50-year high, though the unemployment rate has been under 4%, a near 50-year low.

(70,662 posts)GM Parma which was in trouble. Many jobs here were saved. One of the Ford plants will be a new chips plant. Jobs in manufacturing paid 9 or 10 an hour when I came in 16. Now you can walk into a factory without experience and get 20 or more an hour. Unemployment is at a 50-year low...we don't have inflation. We have greedflation. This is a great economy...everyone in my family is employed at a decent wage.
And what you say is a right-wing talking point. I know you don't mean it to be. But the reality is that this is not a Bad economy It is bad enough to see such things in Right-wing media and newspapers which are lies, must we read such things here? Biden is a good president and has done many positive things...he took over when the economy was in the toilet.
Biden has created more new jobs than any president during my lifetime. He has paid millions worth of student loans off...fixed the Medicare donut hole starting in 25 and has a new prescription plan for Medicare which will save thousands of dollars for enrollees. Biden's next idea is to make it so for everyone...he has progressive plans that will help people. He is pro-union and wants to fix Roe and keep women free. You have to have reasonable expectations IMHO. Nothing is nor will ever be perfect.

(14,298 posts)I stated TWO facts.
"The Rich are getting Richer"
* According to a Feb. 2024 Study, billionaires wealth has grown by 3X the rate of inflation.
"Most Americans are struggling to keep up with rising expenses"
* Recent Gallup poll showing 55% worried a great deal about inflation.

This is just sad. People are proudly ignorant, but at the same time, proudly voice their uninformed opinion. We are so fucked as a country.

(70,662 posts)Here you go...took me less than five minutes to google it...the first one is from before the 16 election. The second link is May 6th I think. Cohen referred to it also during the trial and it was not refuted by Trump's lawyers.
'President Donald Trumps former fixer Michael Cohen said Thursday that he paid the head of a small technology company thousands in 2015 to rig online polls at the direction of and for the sole benefit of Trump.
Cohen was responding to a report in The Wall Street Journal that he paid John Gauger, the owner of RedFinch Solutions LLC, between $12,000 and $13,000 for activities related to Trumps campaign, including trying unsuccessfully to manipulate two online polls in Mr. Trumps favor and creating a Twitter account called @WomenForCohen that praised (Cohens) looks and character, and promoted his appearances and statements boosting Trumps candidacy.'
https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/17/politics/michael-cohen-poll-rigging/index.html
'Jeff McConney testified that the Trump Organizations reimbursements to Michael Cohen included $50,000 for RedFinch IT services. That testimony appears to be a reference to a payment Cohen reportedly paid to a firm that help rig pre-election online polls in Trumps favor. That detail may be significant as prosecutors seek to convince the jury that Trumps hush money payments were meant to influence the 2016 election'

(70,662 posts)and no the polls are shit and not to be believed. You live in Canada right? It is different there, but the polls here have been wrong for years. And we know that Katy Tur and Maggie Haberman were paid off to print Trump-approved stories. I sent you two links and yet you don't think it is true? I mean they would never do it again right? (5,561 posts)completely, and probably won't. The former will change as the Fed cuts rates. The latter is the new reality as deflation will occur only selectively (ice cream prices?, gasoline?).
Somehow people wrongly conflate increased prices with recession and unemployment.
A few Fed rate cuts before the election will do wonders I suspect, because of "easy money" availability and home loans-- though of course current prices are not going back to pre-pandemic levels.
