Trump leaves the door open to new restrictions on contraception

The question was simple: “Do you support any restrictions on a person’s right to contraception?” Donald Trump could've replied, "No." He didn't.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-leaves-door-open-new-restrictions-contraception-rcna153334

An awkward conversation soon followed: Does the contemporary Republican Party have a problem with birth control? That conversation appears likely to get quite a bit louder. Politico reported:

Former President Donald Trump said he’s “looking at” restrictions on contraception during an interview with a local TV station in Pittsburgh released Tuesday. While he didn’t provide any details, he told KDKA political analyst Jon Delano that he plans to share a policy on contraception “very shortly.

The wording of the question couldn’t have been more straightforward: “Do you support any restrictions on a person’s right to contraception?”

The presumptive GOP nominee could’ve very easily replied, “No, I don’t.” That’s not, however, how he replied.

“We’re looking at that, and I’m going to have a policy on that very shortly and I think it’s something that you’ll find interesting,” Trump said. He went to describe his policy — the one he didn’t want to share for reasons he did not explain — as “smart.”....

In other words, Trump’s position is highly relevant, especially as he keeps it a secret for reasons unknown.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, President Joe Biden’s campaign manager, recently argued that a Trump victory would put “contraception in jeopardy nationwide.” It’s awfully generous of the presumptive GOP nominee to help bolster Democratic arguments on the issue.

- history shows someone innocent is going to get screwed and he is going to benefit from it.

He doesn't do anything because it's the right thing to do, he does only what benefits him, either short term or long term.
In this case, it's probably to throw anything federal relating to public health that his backers purport as immoral (vaccines, female reproductive health, the FDA, the CDC) "back to the states" for theocratic or financial reasons.

One of the things seldom mentioned is that there are many women who would reject abortion as a choice for themselves but they have daughters, sisters, cousins, and friends who may need, or just want, an abortion. Can you imagine a parent who tells their 14 year old daughter not to use contraception? Or, tell her sister not to get an abortion if she had been raped?

Being "Pro Life" isn't about "life". It's about punishment.

They may or may not say those things in so many words, but they are unspoken subtext in an overarching message of "Don't even THINK of having sex before you get married, because only sluts do that!"

The girls who get that message know that any sexual activity has to be carefully concealed from Mom and Dad, which also means they can't come to their parents for information about birth control, much less (God forbid) help in obtaining it. Good luck, kids!

Parents in that frame of mind will be perfectly happy with a ban on contraception and abortion for their kids, but most of them will not be happy to find it off limits to themselves. "I'm a grown ass adult!! How dare you take away my contraception!" they'll say indignantly. But by that time, it'll probably be too late.

Of course this is just one more of the multiplicity of reasons why TSF must NOT be allowed to win in November!
