50 billionaires in America with a collective net worth of $1 trillion have spent over $600 million on the 2024 election. Democracy is supposed to be about one person, one vote, not billionaires buying elections. We must overturn Citizens United."

This fall well have the opportunity to elect politicians who actively oppose oligarchy and fascism while embracing the true spirit of American egalitarianism. President Biden is the first president in 80 years to actually raise taxes on rich people and corporations. That political bravery has brought him powerful enemies: this falls election will be hard fought. Make sure everybody you know is registered to vote, and if you live in a Republican-controlled state double-check your voter registration every month at vote.org. Americas future and the integrity of our history depend on it."

So, think about it. The economy benefits when Democrats are in office, yet oligarchs feel robbed of power when they have to actually pay their fair share in taxes and treat employees like real human beings.
It must be some mad want of power, in spite of inferior results, that drives them, and may be related to the inability of management to balance the drive needed to scale a business with personal integrity and humanity.
I suspect that others have said this, and in more elegant ways.
GOP administrations are WORSE for the economy, and yet, oligarchs love 'em.
Talk amongst yourselves.

(5,737 posts)They are great for the uber-wealthy. Because they have all the money and the only amounts we are allowed is what they let us get. That is why they love a 'bad' economy. It is bad because they control it. Not when the people have control of it. Then, those flabby blobs are just people like the rest of us, and such delusional morons are convinced that they are NOT like the rest of us peons.
We remove their power, they have nothing. We won't remove their power, but that is what would happen if we did.

(1,164 posts)... would drive the richest human beings on the planet to invest so much time and treasure in meddling in the electoral process, right on down to small town school boards? They have more money than God. Indeed, they have more money than they can ever spend.
It's not ALL about the Benjamins. What they crave even more than astronomical sums of cash is dominion over the lives of others. The word, "POWER" is just shorthand for that utterly malevolent objective.
Think about it. Every playground bully wants exactly that, though on a much smaller scale. And they demonstrate that power by denying others the benign freedoms they once had, and demanding more of it for themselves. Now scale that up to oligarch size. Bigger sandbox, bigger demands. When asked why they behave with such malice, they'll tell you with savage glee, "Because I can!"
It's that simple. And that vile. And they will never stop upping the ante. Until their victims stop them, hopefully by legal means.
