So, I alienated my barista yesterday...

It never occurred to me that she might be one of those...

She's a young gal, 30-ish, pretty and chatty with her customers. It's funny how shit comes up in conversation, but as things went on I mentioned that as a senior, I had to be thankful for young folks like her working. All in jest, of course, but she gave me the line about "Well, it won't be there when I need it."

So I told her the truth, I heard the same thing when I was her age, back in the 70's. Then I guess I started it because I said, well that's why you have to vote for the right folks who will support the program or something like that. Well, she comes out with, "I voted for trump, but he keeps losing."

And it just blurted out of my mouth, I couldn't help myself. I said, "That's because he's a loser." Hell, I though it was pretty funny, but she immediately slid the window of the drive up closed and went and busied herself in the back of the shop. Oops.

Wonder if I'll see her again.

Unfortunately, so many people who are legitimately concerned about Social Security and Medicare don’t understand that the GOPQ want to kill those programs and/or make that issue nowhere near the priority it should be, when compared to the “brown people invading our country!!!” and “the trans kids will make your frogs gay” (ok, I mashed up an Alex Jones rant with the GOPQ-ball trans rant), etc. The “other” fear mongering is for many people what the shiny object is for a bird: Distraction!

Better would be, "If Trump wins, you can pretty much guarantee that he'll hoover up whatever money is in the Social Security 'lock box' and keep it for himself."

They think they'll get support from young people who falsely assume they won't ever get benefits. And they think they'll get support from conservative old people who want to stick it to lazy undeserving young people. It's a scam that works on too many stupid voters.

Of course, if she's a true Trumper there's a nefarious reason for that--Democrats cheating, liberal bias, the Deep State, yada, yada.

It'll be interesting to see if you have any other interaction with the young woman. Who knows? You may have pierced the info bubble bc yes, Donald Trump is a loser.

The digs are more to draw the comparison. I'm willing to excuse 2016 maybe 2020 if they're contrite. So to estlabish a dialog, compare one couldn't even do a presentation and our guy got the biggest construction bill ever passed 9 or so months in. And it would've been better if the billionaires hadn't limited it.

That I am not giving up my SS unless they pay me every dime I paid into it. then I ask them how much they paid in.
If we get past this point, I ask them if they know their employers have matched that payment 1 for 1 and that its actually twice what they think. Then I ask them if they want to give that up.

I live in a mostly red area. Most of the trump voters I know dont fit the mold that people here talk about. I'm current president of a non profit group who raise money to give to youth programs locally. EVERYONE in my club will vote for trump. ALL of them are college educated intelligent people. The common thread among them is watching Fox News all the time. Many of their kids will vote for trump as well, because their dad tells them he's better.
My usual sign off in these discussions; can the people angry about abortion outnumber the people pissed off about gas prices & the border? because those 3 items are going to be lynchpins. The border has been and IS a disaster. Gas prices have dropped from their high but they're STILL too high. But I know a lot of pissed off women AND men on the abortion issue. Two people I know were trump voters who never thought the court would toss Roe. Hopefully there are many more.
