Jewish groups add more allegations of antisemitism to their lawsuit against UC Berkeley

Two Jewish advocacy organizations suing the University of California, Berkeley, over a “longstanding, unchecked spread of anti-Semitism” have amended their complaint to include incidents from antiwar protests.

The federal complaint, filed in the Northern District of California in November by the Louis D. Brandeis Center and Jewish Americans for Fairness in Education, was amended May 3.

The measure is among a handful of discrimination complaints filed against universities since the Israel-Hamas war started in October.

“While most antisemitic expression is, whether we like it or not, protected by the First Amendment, we know that as a university, we must still respond if and when that expression rises to the level of individual harassment and/or discrimination,” he said.

Everything that I saw and heard at the commencement ceremony was finally organized civil disobedience. I heard a key note speaker address some of the brightest kids in the country, if not the world, with basketball analogies and sports platitudes. There was a large, non violent group of students who made their presence and their support of the Palestinian people known. I heard nothing but "cease fire now"and divestment from arms manufacturers and the State of Israel due to their killing of civilians. Famine and indiscriminate destruction of infrastructure are what I heard about. I heard nothing in their protest that was anti Jewish. It was all "cease fire now". The key note speaker was trite in comparison. If these groups are contending that what I saw was antisemitism, they weren’t really listening to what was being said. It was a call for the US and Berkeley to stop supporting the killing in Gaza.
