A friend has suggested that we call britt's insanity the ELSIE Act.

iI have not worked it out yet. Perhaps some of our more talented members could suggest the best words???

For those of you who have not seen one of today's more insane little tidbits, that nutcase from Alabama, katie britt (remember her state of the union response?) has introduced a bill called the MOMS Act (More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed), which would essentially create a federal data base of pregnant people. She has been excoriated, laughed at, ridiculed all over the internet today (including the cringe-worthy video, which has not been posted on DU yet).

has proposed the oh-so-cleverly named MOMS Act (More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed), which would essentially create a federal registry of pregnant people. Since women are essentially seen as gestating/lactating cows, might as well be honest with the legislation.

Many of us here remember Elsie, the Borden cow mascot.

Also proposes to direct pregnant women to fraudulent 'crisis pregnancy' centers that dole out anti-science propaganda about contraception and abortion.

But then, even livestock is worth more than a human female in the eyes of the patriarchy.

What is bad about this bill is not what everyone is claiming it does, but doesn't. It's that it would create a central clearinghouse where pregnant women could get pre- and post-natal information and would provide grants for organizations that provide pregnancy-related information. It even requires such information be provided in multiple languages. That would actually be a good thing, but it isn't a good thing in this bill because the bill bars pregnancy-related information information or grants from being provided to any entity, including such entity's affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, and clinics, that performs, induces, refers for, or counsels in favor of abortions, or provides financial support to any other organization that conducts such activities.
