It says "thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor" which is a specific kind of lie. Of course they break it anyway.

Also, I've heard it said that the literal translation of another commandment is "thou shalt nor murder", which is a specific kind of killing.

Perhaps that's how stoning is justified. I dunno.
