Berlins government is offering to give away a villa once owned by Adolf Hitlers propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels, hoping to end a decades-long debate on whether to repurpose or bulldoze a sprawling disused site in the countryside north of the German capital.
I offer to anyone who would like to take over the site, to take it over as a gift from the state of Berlin, Berlins finance minister, Stefan Evers, told the state parliament, the German Press Agency reported.
Berlin has repeatedly tried to hand off the site to federal authorities or the state of Brandenburg, where the villa lies, rather than continue to pay for maintenance and security at the complex, which has become overgrown and fallen into disrepair.
Evers renewed that offer on Thursday, calling for proposals that reflected the sites history. He didnt say if proposals from private individuals would also be considered.

I'll take it!
I'd love to make it into something positive, while still reminding visitors about the dark history before.
Never forget!

(19,113 posts)to take it over. I think a museum of propaganda, how it has been used through the ages to justify wars and atrocities would be appropriate.

(43,729 posts)Shame they can't literally dismantle it and recycle, repurpose. But even there the materials would have a history.
Did Stephen Miller apply yet?

(20,049 posts)was the site of the Wannsee Conference in 1942 where the Final Solution was planned. Fifty years later it was turned into a Holocaust Memorial and Museum with a "permanent exhibition on the planning and execution of the holocaust."
(I was in that building at least 3 times in the 70s but didn't know much of its history at that time--fortunately.)
Too much "maintenance and security" for the German government to keep all the infamous villas.
Never forget!

(12,602 posts)Always the low man on the Totem pole, always picked on, physically infirm... always an incel loser.
Found something to do for a decade or so that inflated his true character... ended up assuming room temperature at an early age.
That's the thing about Nazi Germany...
I can name a dozen major empires in history where the leader was a stud... a straight up action hero like Julius Caesar or Cleopatra or Alexander the Great.
But Nazi Germany was started by and led by little little men...
Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels... all weak, small little men.
You had to go DOWN a layer or two in bureaucracy to find some credentialed men.

(17,757 posts)The man was a close to being a devil as any man who ever walked the earth. One of the architects of the super-race theory and the final solution. His last living orders were to murder his own children on the alter of his almighty Hitler. He was a destructive piece of shit with no redeeming human value. When his name is spoken, it should always be prefaced with, "That bastard."

(12,602 posts)But still weak little men.
Weak little evil men... all of them would have been thrown into camps or discarded by the systems they created.
The irony is that... their inherent weakness is probably what led them to be so evil. Revenge and hatred was primarily their ultimate inspiration/goal.
