Critical incident declared in London after 'several people stabbed'

A critical incident has been declared in London following reports of several people being stabbed. The Metropolitan Police says one man has been arrested in connection with the incident this morning (April 30).

It took place at a Tube station in Hainault, north east London. The area's MP, Wes Streeting, said a 'critical incident' has been declared.

He wrote on X (formerly Twitte): “A critical incident has been declared in Hainault. There are station and road closures in place.

"The police, ambulance service and fire brigade are responding. One male detained.”

The Metropolitan Police said on social media: “Police are at an incident in the Hainault area. Please follow the instructions of police officers on the ground.

1. Man with a sword drove a vehicle into a house

Police were called shortly before 07:00 BST to reports of a vehicle being driven into a house in Thurlow Gardens, near Hainault station in north-east London
There were reports people had been stabbed, police say
The suspect went on to attack "other members of the public and two officers"
London Ambulance Service say their staff treated five people at the scene and took all five to hospital - their condition is not known
A 36-year-old man with a sword was arrested at the scene and is in custody
Police say the incident does not appear to be terror-related

2. A 14-year-old boy has died of his wounds

In the space of less than half an hour in Hainault, a 14-year-old boy and four other people were attacked.

A few hours later, police confirmed the child had died of his injuries.
