3:38pm eastern time Monday on MSNBC
They were discussing job creation and Tur defended Trumps job losses because of Covid
Nancy said if you want to be an apologist for Donald Trump, maybe thats your role here.
Tur said I dont think Ive ever been accused of that.
I laughed out loud.

(243 posts)They were discussing the proposed National Abortion Ban, and Tur commented something about "Trump said he'd never support such a thing".
Pelosi looked at her with disdain, and said something like, "And you believe anything he has to say"
The quotes are as best as I could get. I was too busy laughing at her. The look on Pelosi's face... If anyone can get the exact quotes, please do

(6,947 posts)There was something about her style that was fingernails on chalkboard as the old analogy said before whiteboards.
You all pointed my uncomforther brand is that she is giggly aloof from the serious subject shes reporting on. The fake smile and clueless persona is straight out of the movies and totally inappropriate for television journalists.
Her whole act is demonstrating how insignificant the subject matter is. I cant watch someone as unserious as that and immediately tune her out. That cant be good for sponsors who expect me to tolerate her, and hang around long enough just to sample their wares.

(43,829 posts)And then the novel coronavirus struck. In two months, March and April 2020, the U.S. economy lost a staggering 22.4 million jobs.
Most of those jobs (56%) would return before Trump left office. But he ended his presidency with an economy that had 2.9 million fewer jobs than when he started becoming the first president in modern times to experience a net loss of jobs over his time in office, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which has monthly employment figures dating to 1939.

(403 posts)Some in the media are giving Trump a pass on COVID because they regard it as a unique event.
There are multiple reasons that is not a valid argument.
Experts believe 40% died due to Trump's response
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/10/us-coronavirus-response-donald-trump-health-policy
We should be proactive and not consider COVID as a once in a lifetime event.
2 years before COVID, Trump was ready to kick millions off health insurance when he attempted to repeal ACA.
There is a pattern here.
When it comes to healthcare, Trump is grossly incompetent.
I was first diagnosed with lymphoma some 35 years ago.
I am currently on my third remission, a remission I would not have achieved if ACA had been repealed; it provides me protection against lifetime limits.

But frustratingly they took the Senate and prevented Obama from having a 3rd SCOTUS seat. During the beginning of Covid TSF just played with numbers, facts, science and our mental as well as physical health because he is ASF.

(1,651 posts)She may just be a victim of producers' prerogatives, but her show is less NEWS (new items to report) than it is constant repetition of what's reflected in polls (Biden's old, INFLATION, INFLATION, INFLATION, crime). Of course these polls simply report the perceptions held largely by an oblivious population that unwittingly repeats narratives that began as fox new chyron.
She once had pollster Cornell Belcher on and he is very good at warning that polls are merely snapshots that give campaigns information on where they need to work. Jansing went on and on questioning Biden's chances given all this INFLATION. Belcher then informed her that in 1984 Reagan who had been given a slim chance at reelection given the recession that cast a pall over his first term came out with his Morning in America ads and went on to win in a landslide. Then know-nothing Jansing challenged the pollster with "but you can't tell people how they feel."
I was livid. Her contention was way out of line. Of course you can tell people how they feel. Fox News does it very well. Telling people how they feel is the job of propaganda. She's a complete and utter idiot that repeats Andrea Mitchellesque sayings for no reason. But I still turn her on in the morning. I guess I like to have something to complain about.

(12,682 posts)GDP all 4 qtrs of '19 were about the same & unemployment remained low.
But interest rates shouldve been raised in '18 which wouldve slowed it some. But trump pressured the fed NOT to raise because he wanted unfettered growth for his reelection. Which is why he lied about Covid; he actually thought he could talk the economy into staying stable. Showing how stupid he is

(538 posts)I am so glad that she resigned as Speaker and let Jefferies take over. She is such a smart politician and remains relevant as Speaker Emeritus. I sometimes wish that other politicians were that wise. We need to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders. Nancy has done this and yet remains effective as a senior member of the House and the Party. She can advise and support younger Party members and leaders like Jefferies. You can have both the new leaders and guidance from the older, more senior politicians as well. She has made so many smart moves. She continues to be relevant.

(2,025 posts)No country went unaffected by Covid.
Without Covid, there would not have been a huge job loss during Trump's last term. This isn't "defending" Trump, its a simple fact. Hell, most people agree Trump would have likely won re-election if not for Covid.
The only thing that would have resulted in fewer deaths would have been a China-style lockdown, which would have resulted in exponentially more jobs being lost. Then Trump would be blamed for that.
Democrats trying to compare "job losses due to Covid in Trump's fourth year" to a Covid-free four years of Biden makes no sense and is grasping. Say what you will about Katie Tur, but all she did was state a fact that makes trying to compare economies during Trump year 4 vs All Four Years of Biden silly at best.

(2 posts)The so-called main stream media all seem to have an aversion to calling Trump out for what he is. Every day he says something anti-democratic, racist or just an outright lie and it get's reported as a fact.
The right floods the news aggregators with this type of coverage attempting to lead people to believe that Trump's point of view is no less valid than Biden's while the response from the supposedly 'responsible' media is to downplay the risk Trump poses to the nation.
The same thing happened in 2016 when Trump's grandiose promises were reported as 'news' while no one mentioned they were impossible to fulfill. Sure, better health care and cheaper, too. And the plan is always only 2 weeks away.
The press is being irresponsible, once again.
