What about if the conservative justices know T's plans if elected to

using the Justice department to indict former presidents for official acts taken while President. For instance, what if they decide to indict Bush and Cheney for starting the Iraq war?

Obama for having Osama Bin Laden killed? What if they know of his plans and are thus seeing this particular risk?

Not only are they protecting him from justice now, thus giving him more of a chance of "winning" this November. But are trying to neuter some of the potential harm that he might cause the system should he get back in?

I just have not been able to get my head around their bizarro mindset. This idea came to me, and I wonder what you all think of the possibility that they know of some of his actual plans. I mean they have an inside view through their benefactors and spouses, right?

No. They’re not doing that.

I understand your impulse to look for a silver lining. It’s just not there.

just trying to find something to hold onto, as the conclusions that I come to otherwise are really brutal.

He is the former Senator from Alabama or Arkansas. Said he felt confident the justices were pushing the arguments from both sides to the extreme of their positions as they work toward their decision. I have heard this comment about SCOTUS in the past, and it does make some sense, depending on the case, they are hearing.

One of my close friend’s daughter worked on his campaign. He's smart as a whip and a great person from what I understand.

that being said it is horrifying how open some of them seemed to be to voting for this. i still expect immunity to fail but this would be 9-0 with any court prior to this one.

I’ll remind you that the SC conservatives had plenty of opportunities to do Trump favors in the 2020 election litigation.

I listened to the justices both days ( on the emergency room abortions case in Idaho, and then this one) and am rather convinced that they are making sure that Democracy is ended for their theocratic takeover.

I feel down in the dumps watching this slow moving train. Hence all these posts, I guess. i needed some people I like to give me some perspective.

Thanks

They should have taken the case when Smith petitioned for them to in December.

They've delayed the final decision for months, virtually assuring that neither of the federal cases will reach verdict--and probably not go to trial--before the election.

But perhaps you think it's merely all about proper justice.

Think. Again.

...we somehow delude ourselves to think that the rightwing justices are concerned for what is best for the country.

In my opinion, that simply can not be true for the simple reason that they are rightwing.

There are more than enough conspiracy theories floating around out there, no need to create more (unless that's the intention.)

in the classic sense, but more an attempt to understand why the conservative justices are doing what they are. Personally, I don't think they are protecting other former presidents, but their behavior has been peculiar.

The best I can come up with is they are trying to delay trials until after the election. That leaves me wondering what hold does Trump have over them. They could and should have just refused to take the case.
