She has a big glossy post up there advertising her new book where she brags about killing her puppy. She's apparently added some BS about how these things happen on a farm and she's trying to troll the press and her critics about being politically incorrect.
She's disgusting of course, but like all magats she's all in on anything that makes her money and doesn't require any brains. So I think that maybe her publisher will be hearing from people. Because she is getting ratioed like nobody's business and I don't think people are going to let this go.

(1,294 posts)In the book it says the dog got out of the truck. On her own? Really? Cause I have never seen a dog capable of opening a truck door. Me thinks she did not secure the door and the poor dog got out. That was her fault. Farmers understand the importance of penning/securing animals..

(63,235 posts)Most farmers aren't going to be impressed by her going on a temper tantrum killing spree because she is too incompetent to train her dogs. And she bragged about killing a goat because she hadn't bothered to neuter it and it was getting mean?

(4,154 posts)violent magat. There are other, more compassionate ways to "put down" a dog. My question is, why put down a dog that is not dying when he could have been adopted by someone who would have loved the puppy enough to train him correctly?
I hate magats - I hate them. That dog could not defend himself against a violent magat with a gun.

I am using cities and not metro areas, as we are discussing one person's political control over a legally defined population
A mayor is not the leader of the entire metro area (Southeast Florida is a perfect example, huge in area and pops, but the cities themselves are nowhere near a million people each):

(29,809 posts)we had a quite a few dogs, including one that he used for hunting birds.
That dog lost her leg in an accident. And she retired from hunting... and got the privilege of coming inside to lay by the fire and live in the house when she wanted... and lived the rest of her life as a beloved pet.

(5,370 posts)I can remember when a dog killed some of our sheep. We recognized the dog; my father called the owner, and he shot the dog. I think I should make one distinction: farm dogs back then were not always pets. They were supposed to protect livestock, keep fox and other predators away. In short, they had a job. A dog who killed another farmer's sheep was obviously not doing its job. Also, such dogs weren't treated as pets and might, MIGHT have been difficult to rehome. Kind of like a rural version of a junkyard dog.
I'm not excusing what she did. Times have changed, thinking is different. Also, Noem's dog sounded like an untrained puppy who was having fun in a destructive way. That's on her. It sounded like a candidate for rehoming to me. Instead, she took the easy way out and even seems proud of what she did. See how down to earth I am. Liberals just don't get it. (sarcasm)
On our farm, we had a husky who killed anything unfortunate enough to get within reach. They have a hell of a prey drive. Dad loved that dog and found a new home for it. He couldn't stand us kids crying every time it killed kittens.

(2,332 posts)It was a young dog, and clearly not trained properly about how to treat birds. And I know well-trained hunting dogs, thanks to a grandfather who was never without one until he became too sick to hunt anymore. Not one of his dogs ever attacked a chicken--and they had ample opportunity to do so from the coop on his property.
Are some dogs irredeemable bird-munchers? Undoubtedly. But these days, rater than murdering them, you remove them to an environment where they don't get the opportunity to attack birds. Like a home with a bunch of school-age youngsters. Then they're too busy to care about munching on birds.
That's why the 'humane societies' exist: To treat dogs humanely as the first resort, rather than murdering them at will for not meeting the expectations of incompetent dog owners.
I can't believe some as dog-averse as I am must explain this concept.
shrike3
(5,370 posts)When I was a child. You know what was a real problem? People dumping their dogs in the country. It was a real problem. "Let's dump Fido in the country and he can go live on a farm." These dogs occasionally formed packs, attacked livestock, like sheep, and sometimes local farm dogs would join in. Tragic situation. Things have changed, thankfully, and now dumping can earn you criminal charges in some parts.

(5,370 posts)One of the neighbor's dogs killed some of our sheep. We recognized the dog. Dad called his owner, and he shot the dog. Dogs on some farms were like junkyard dogs. Not so much pets but protectors. Protect from foxes and other varmints. And wild dogs. I don't know how it was where you lived, but people were always dumping pets in the country. They formed packs, and sometimes farm dogs would join in, instead of driving them away. Tragic situation. Obviously, things have changed.

(1,690 posts)She said "hated that dog." So the natural answer is to kill it. Agree or disagree, there may even be compassionate reasons to euthanize a dog this way. But this wasn't about the rational reasons you might have to euthanize an animal. This was about enacting violence on something that annoyed you.

(67,496 posts)Early in Stephen King's novel "The Dead Zone", the book's antagonist kicks a farm dog to death in a fury. Just before the dog dies, it licks the boot that killed it in a gesture of final submission. When I read that, I put the book down and cried for probably an hour. My heart was broken.
I don't read the self-serving books of Republican douchebags; I don't care how good the ghost-writer is. And I'm not going to read about dog murderers anymore. I don't have the strength.
