Repub legislator says House may soon flip to Dems

According to this tweet by Ron Filipkowski (who describes himself as a Republican Party Insane Asylum Escapee), Repub Rep. Anna Paulina Luna says that if a Motion to Vacate is brought to the floor, several moderate Repubs will resign and immediately hand over the majority to Democrats

any notion of them being responsible stewards of the government. Has something like this ever happened before? I know that in the Senate, Jeffords' defection gave Democrats control of the Senate for awhile until the 2002 Midterms (back in those relatively halcyon days) but I've never seen or heard of a party losing so many members in such a record amount of time via resignation that the control of the chamber could conceivably flip to the other party.

In those days, believe it or not, presidential candidates didn’t campaign during the other candidates’ national convention, out of courtesy. So I was at the ATM in Greenville, DE, and the guy in line, in bermuda shorts and a baseball cap, was Joe Biden and Jeffords had just switched. I almost said good morning Mr. Chairman but he walked in the other direction

There were no conventions that summer. It was 2001, the year after the presidential election. And Jeffords announced in late May anyway, not the summer.

the House majority over to Dems. (The two who said this plan to retire at the end of the term, but said they'll quit immediately if the motion is put forward.

So, do Dems vote to save Johnson and let Repubs keep control, or do they vote to vacate and so those two moderates will resign and give the Dems control?

Or, they may all be working together and have a plan of action that suits them all the best.

The GQP has lost all semblance of being a functioning political party.

If a Vacate motion is pushed, You need a majority to vote for it to reach the point where Democrats and a handful of Republicans could elect Jeffries as Speaker. There's no indication that Democrats will support a Vacate resolution this time around.

They just would have to flip to become Dems, or declare they are now independent, but they want to caucus with the Dems, and it would automatically flip.
