In his piece, Sherman warns Democrats not to underestimate the Trump operation, and I promise not to do that. However, being better than Trump in 2016 is not the same as being better than Biden in 2024. With seven months to go, Joe Bidens Campaign operation is well ahead of Trumps.
...snip...
The Biden operation has been on non-stop offense. Since the State of the Union, the President remains omnipresent in the battleground states. His messaging is strategically designed to shore up the Presidents coalition; and he is currently in the midst of a three-day tour of Pennsylvania to talk about the economy. Since the State of the Union, the President made major announcements on climate change, student loan debt cancellation, gun safety reform and prescription drug costs. All of these issues are critical to the struggling segments of his coalition.
The Biden Campaign continues to draw contrasts with Trump at every opportunity, launching new ads and videos on a near daily basis to define Trump and his agenda like this ad released immediately after the Arizona Supreme Court enacted a near-total ban on abortion in the state:

(16,786 posts)Joe Biden is pleased that down ballot Democratic candidates are using his name and likeness in their races. For they see Joe as a stabilizing force whose message is resonating with voters.
TAXING the Billionaires who have been made even richer from the 2017 Tax Cuts is making headway with voters.
Abortion access and Reproductive rights are making voters(women) take notice.
Forgiving Student Loans are helping College graduates who are 20 + years out of graduation better consumers.
Monthly Job reports are showing that Americans are working and that the investments in Infrastructure is showing fruit.
Republicans have NOTHING to offer voters except FEAR.

(1,144 posts)One thing that greatly worries me is that the reich-wing tumor inside the Republican party has only grown stronger after the Epiphany Day coup (Republicans soiled the sacred Day of Epiphany with their vile coup spectacle, and it should have been an epiphany for the US as a whole to see the authoritarians unmasked).
The tumor did not begin with Trump, or even Reagan, or Nixon, read Jeff Sharlet's "The Family" to get closer to its beginning. But Trump was a catalyst to the cancer which began long before he was born and will survive long after his death. While Trump stimulated the cancer's consolidation and growth he is also so deeply flawed personally that it should be obvious that the next authoritarian Strong Leader is likely to be far more effective. And the authoritarian web of conspirators against democracy appears that it will only be stronger even if the buffoon is banished.
