Both companies' stocks are plunging. It's almost as if people don't like investing in companies run by raging lunatic assholes.

Truth Social, on the other hand, is just Good Value Twitter with only one single prominent poster.

(1,872 posts)You can only spin so much in this world where everyone has a camera in their pocket. That launch will go down as one of the shittiest in history, and the final product is just a raging dumpster fire.
I havent seen one video of a happy cyber truck buyer.
Pretty sure the truth social thing is designed to do this, its just a money laundering machine for Saudi and Russian interests, theyll prop it up long enough to ensure tfg is thoroughly owned should the unimaginable actually happen.

(10,927 posts)One big reason those sales have slowed is because of Elon's reputation:
Would-be Tesla buyers snub company as Musk's reputation dips

Add in that Tesla is opening it's Supercharger network to all vehicles and there's not many reasons left to buy a Tesla over the competition.
When normal looking EV trucks from Ford, GM, or Rivian can also charge anywhere, why buy a Cybertruck?

They dont look bad ass so it isnt like you are going to pull over some of the Dodge Ram crowd.
It just gives off a strange vibe. All I look for is spots on the steel when I see one.
Some guy in my neighborhood runs his pool cleaning business out of one, no signage/decals to promote his business, just strange to sink that kind of money into a truck and not use it to advertise your business.

(2,835 posts)Hyundai Ioniq. If you should happen to run over some large road debris and damage the battery/shield a new battery is alleged to be $60,000 (Canadian dollars) to replace it. Insurance writes it off. Other brands also have really high replacement costs.

(9,959 posts)General decline in electrics (novelty effect is down, people seem to prefer hybrids).
Quality issues (or the lack thereof) are coming to the forefront. Expect more as the cars age.
and yes, bonehead management.
Alienate (vilify) half the available market when trying to create an "everything app" like WeChat with access to your money accounts.
fElon would like to make us all batteries, as in The Matrix, but perhaps that's how his cars will end up.
Batteries for solar systems when the cars just fall apart.

(111,433 posts)because the lithium ion batteries are too subject to damage and catch on fire when they get damaged. Since Teslas don't have battery ejection features, the whole car gets toasted when one battery fails.
The stock has consistently outperformed predicions, so this might be some long delayed profit taking. Investors are a thick skinned lot, so I don't think this is a vote of no confidence in Musk.
It might be a combination of these two things. I know Tesla owners love their cars when they're not on fire, so that's not the problem.

(10,927 posts)Tesla and few manufacturers are switching cars over to LFP batteries. That's lithium with cheap iron rather than pricier metals like manganese and cobalt.
They're cheaper to make and a little bit heavier, but a LOT safer. Very little fire risk. Plus they're so robust they'll outlast the car.

(21,261 posts)I brought a hybrid last November and a friend asked me why I didnt get a Tesla? I told her about muskrat and how my neighbors electric bill after buying one went from $150 a month to $700. The infrastructure is just not completely in place yet to sustain electric vehicles.

VHS won. Beta was better but more expensive.
Plus the early adopters of EV already HAVE EVs. The rest of us can't afford then at Tesla prices. So we wait on getting a cheaper alternative and a build out of the needed infrastructure to support them. Plus there are too many stories of the damn things catching fire.
