Really beating Trump at his own game and I think it is working.

(19,066 posts)But I think he and his campaign are smart to recognize things are different right now than they were in 2020. Trump's lunacy was on full display every single day and the country was in full chaos with nationwide protests against police killings, and a Covid crisis that was killing thousands. Trump and the media want the voters to forget all about that and they're trying to normalize Trump. Biden and his campaign aren't having it and are taking it to Trump right now with his own tactics.

Nice try Donald. How does it feel to have all your tactics used against you? Karma at its finest.

(5,810 posts)That ads like that, as humiliating and biting as they are, will sway any hard core MAGA voters. But there are plenty with just a little bit more information and comparison will pause at the thought of sticking with or selecting tRump. The Biden campaign needs to chip away relentlessly beat him like a rented mule until the comparison is obvious. Biden is the man, getting things done. tRump is a fool, a doddering old fool, who has no business back in the White House.
Then later they need to hit him with his crimes, dishonesty and all around nastiness. He is not a nice man. He is not even a decent man. He is an insult to the office he aspires to hold again. He only wants it to avoid prison and accountability. Lets all vow well work with everything weve got to make him a one term president and do everything we can to make him pay for his crimes. Make him regret the day he ever thought being POTUS was a good idea.

(32,641 posts)Some Republicans have no intention of voting for Chump, they'll just leave the top slot on the ballot blank. Or some might vote for Kennedy. (I don't know that for sure but it doesn't matter.) Chump will get way fewer votes this time than last.
Too many Americans do not want him back in the White House - ever again. All we Dems need to do is Get The Vote Out and get our independent friends to care enough to help us. We'll have a solid BLUE SWEEP in November - the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives.

Apparently the MAGAs don't care.

(7,901 posts)them in he grocery store or in the coffee shop. They speak resolutely of their fantasies and it sounds as if we are living in a television soap opera. The kind where events and emotions are exaggerated for melodramatic effect.
They are not capable of recognizing the difference[/i] between the world they've been hyped into believing in and the reality of their own neighborhood. Its like when people go on and on about how awful "those" homeless people are, or "those" immigrants living down the street are. When the truth is the "immigrant" family happens to include a registered nurse at the local ER and her husband: a lawyer for the town council, while some of the local homeless are displaced veterans who fought in Vietnam, Iraq, and Syria.
The same MAGA speak as if there never was a world in which the US offered a home to anyone yearning to breathe free, where their grandparents fought to oppose the kind of fanatical tyranny on open display at Trump rallies and GOP speeches, where the simple truth was a conversation to be shared rather than a whipping post for the angry entitled white racist.
You cannot offer them reason because their ability to reason has been turned off, replaced by stock phrases and a terrified certainty that we are about to fall of the edge of the earth if one more immigrant arrives in Eagle Pass, TX, or down the block. It is a social disease of pandemic proportions.

(2,739 posts)synapses atrophy and die. I believe you are literally right, that there is a physiological reason for their inability to reason. Plus the nonsense implanted in their brains seems to have spread tendrils throughout like a bad horror movie.

(7,901 posts)instilled by the propagandist, then they get another kind of chemical jolt from the anger they feel. It resembles the cycle of withdrawal and resupply that an addict goes through. It is more complex than I am writing here but the cycle and recycle are real events to them. It is maintained by nearly constant barrage of Stochastic terrorism put out by Fox et al, Trump, and other figures. It is how propaganda of this type works, the way a cult works, the way some religious practices work. It is why cultists must be weaned away and deprogramed in order to function as individuals. That the delivery system is words and images rather than ingestion of a chemical in some ways is more insidious. The really sad thing about this is that the cultists believe that they are normal and that anyone who presents them with conflicting information is an abnormal threat.
People who are caught up in a cult have no functional ability to see that. They have been programmed to reject any information which conflicts with the worldview inculcated into them. Cultists need not be unintelligent but it makes programming them easier. Some very smart people have come to hold very rigid views of culture, the world, and even the universe, resisting what you might think should be the intelligent view that would question certain inconsistencies.
There are better, more detailed and dynamic descriptions of the way cults work and the effects I have tried to illuminate above here. The principle issue to keep in mind is that cult members cannot usefully distinguish between their worldview and seemingly obvious contradicting facts or reasoning.
Their leadership is aware that this is the case and depend on reinforcing the cycle of fear and belief to maintain power over the herd. Their leaders are another aspect of the cult wherein they use the followers for personal gain or as a mob to support the leader's power and authority. Leaders may or may not believe in the cult values and thinking. They certainly believe in using the gullible as a means to personal authority.
Propaganda campaigns function more or less the same way by generating false perceptions which are effectively self-reinforcing.
