BREAKING: Democrat @marilynforAL has defeated Republican Teddy Powell, who just conceded in the special election for Alabama House District 10, a Huntsville-area swing district, by what looks like will be a pretty big margin (district was Trump +1, Doug Jones +5 in 2020)

(8,655 posts)They had it at 51/45/3 as their was a Libertarian on the ballot. Not sure why the discrepancy as I'm not seeing a source to the numbers.

(22,182 posts)Imagine a district in deep blue California that Biden won by 8 points in 2020 and that voted for a GOP Rep in 2022 by several points had flipped Red by 25 points. And the candidate who flipped it had ran on one big issue that was directly tied to Biden. This would have kncked the bridge collapse off the top of the fold on national newspapers.
This is a cataclismic wave of change. From Trump +8 in 2020 and GOP +7 in 2022 to Dem +25 in 2024 based on abortion access. The Biden campaign is doing well right now directly tying Trump to ending Roe v Wade and he can't hude from it.
And that Trump +8 was for Madison county, they don't give results by district, but this district omits Huntsville from it so it's certainly more like Trump +15-20. This is a 40-50 point flip from 2020 in facor of Democrats based on abortion.

(11,584 posts)All the Republicans who have said/thought the 'little ladies' would get over the Dobbs' decision and more recently the decision on IVF. Reproductive health care matters to women and the men who care about and respect them.
Even in Alabama!
We're coming for you, Republicans. All of you.
