Elevating VP Harris - it's about time

I have noticed VP Kamala Harris in the press the past few weeks & wanted to comment because I agree it's time. I think it's time for her to be out and about so folks can see our rising VP. She is younger, female, and non-white. These are positives as she represents a ton of Americans who are also not old Maga members. She is speaking the truth on GAZA, which is critical to keep our younger voters. She needs to be seen as a bright and forceful leader who can step in if necessary, given the age of the president.

Of course, republicans hate her - but I've been around many decades and seen this game before. They hated Teddy, they hated Bill, they hated Hillary, they hated Barack, and hated Michelle. Why? Because they were all great leaders fighting on the side of the people. The White House and the party have done a good job of protecting Harris, but I think it's time for her to do a lot more of this - and show Americans we not only have Joe Biden, but we have his understudy who would also make a very good leader for this country.

I don't make OP's much - just wanted to throw in an opinion after reading this great article in the Guardian -

According to someone I know. I personally could never stomach even one minute of him.

It’s sickening the knee - jerk hate. I think she is doing a fantastic job. The press either ignores her or makes noises about her being incompetent. It’s so unfair.

they were just as hateful to Teddy Kennedy back in the day, and they really went after Hillary Clinton because she had the intelligence to be a great president.

Women just watch Katie Britt's response to the SOTU. That over the top emotionalism, as if the woman is acting and lying about everything.

White, young, emotional, wearing fake religiosity is what the Repubs want. Always in the kitchen and pregnant, then divorced as soon as they get as old as the ugly balding husband they marry.

A "Magda" Goebbels but without the murdering of six of her children.

Getting her more visible and more involved will help bring in voters who didn't know her and were concerned about her ability to take over if the President was unable to continue for any reason.

Think. Again.

(by keeping her in the background) - I could be wrong. Lately the assignments have definitely been difficult, but she's doing great.

I'll be interested to see who Trump finally selects to be his VIP. Right now to younger folks - and especially folks who are not as political - they see two elderly white men running for office. I like seeing Harris coming up in the press and looking like the great leader she is (although admittedly I'd like to see it in the NYTimes, and not just overseas press!)

And as such, they really resent the "cool kids". Even worse, they hate when those cool people beat them in elections. I think they need some therapy to get over their adolescent feelings of inferiority.

She laughs and smiles inappropriately. Meanwhile they worship the Orange Blob who insults everyone, which is often accompanied by a derisive laugh and mocking gestures. A competent intelligent black woman, who might be President someday, is seemingly a great fear amongst the Orange Pig worshipers.

She HAS BEEN "out and about" the entire time she has been in office. It's the fucking racist media that refuses to cover her until recently.

Since the campaign is underway, the media eventually plows into her by accident.

If you don't count her trips around the world attending international conferences, etc (like the Munich Security Conference last month or at COP28 in Dubai in December), she had been touring at colleges rallying students to vote this past fall -

Vice President Harris Launches Nationwide “Fight for Our Freedoms College Tour” to Mobilize Students and Young People in the Fight for Their Rights

And she has been on a "reproductive freedoms" tour since January -

Vice President Kamala Harris Launches Reproductive Freedoms Tour

This was her kick-off -

Her 5th stop for that tour was just a couple days ago in Phoenix.

She sometimes gets "local" news coverage at these stops but the "national" M$M don't give a shit.

I think you are making a critical point. I tend to watch the NYTimes and Wash Post because I used to live in Washington when I was younger. Those two papers have gotten particularly bad. I started looking to overseas press again lately, especially to read about Israel/Gaza.

Originally, before DC, I grew up in the midwest (northern state), and I was pretty clueless about the institutional racism in this country as well. Not that it had existed, but I thought things had "gotten better" here as time went on. Until Obama was elected and the racists stopped holding it in and I saw how horrible a lot of folks (and our systems) really are. So agree on that point about the racist press as well.

official pages lays out what she is/was working on... So the info is out there, but she, like Joe, just keeps her focus on getting stuff done and for whatever reason, the MSM and GOP pretty much ignore it.

Now when even Democrats have questions about Biden's age, moving Harris more front and center may just make some nervous if Biden knows something we don't about his tenure as president. Why wait until the final year in office to elevate the VP to be someone other than the person who sits behind Biden when he addresses Congress.

All VPs get ingored. But the RW press hates her more for that extra reason.

At the heart of the matter, they fear her because she's a smart, strong woman of color. She was actually my pick in 2020 until Biden won the nom.

I don't remember folks getting their panties in a twist about what Gore, Cheney, Biden and Pence did all day when they were VP. The first woman who becomes VP gets criticized about what she is or isn't doing on the job all day. Hypocritical but typical.

He was the most consequential VP in my lifetime for sure, he's the only one who knew how to work the levers of power and work them he did while Bush was off clearing brush. We raged about him every single day here on DU and he certainly was under tons of press scrutiny despite his fucking undisclosed locations.

I thought her lack of exposure was due to the same biased RW owned media outlets that favor Smelvis and shun Biden.

I’m happy that she’s gaining traction despite them.

(No doubt though they’re perched for a hot mic moment which I know she is situationally aware of.)
