(131,658 posts)For the prophets, Jesus and the New Testament apostles, Israel's physical salvation at the Red Sea became a code word for salvation. Israel's prophets constantly appealed to the exodus as the basis for calling the nation to obedience. The yearly Passover feast commemorated the salvation of Israel's first born.

(25,939 posts)It's more like, "You're in the doghouse"
A come-to-Jesus meeting was originally an American term describing a Christian religious service where it was hoped that many worshipers would dedicate their lives to Jesus. Many charismatic preachers traveled across the country in the 1800s and 1900s holding camp meetings or tent revivals, which were enthusiastic religious services.
Today, the come-to-Jesus meeting has taken on a figurative sense, often used in politics, business and parenting. When one has a come-to-Jesus meeting with another, this is an opportunity to point out where someone has taken the wrong path. A figurative come-to-Jesus meeting is never pleasant, it is often the last attempt to straighten someone out before dire consequences are enacted. Note that each of these terms are hyphenated, and the name Jesus is capitalized. Be aware that a minority of people may not approve of the use of the term come-to-Jesus in a secular way.

(802 posts)Saul--later Paul--apparently had a botched circumcision. He was angry all his life, particularly at the rabbis who did it.

I always heard he suffered from ocular migraines and developed one while being pissed off at and persecuting Christians.

(597 posts)Like, I love that he wants to talk with Netanyahu, but FFS, saying the leader of the Jewish politcal world needs to find Jesus, even in the metaphorical sense, sounds... insensitive and tone deaf.

(674 posts)... and Netanyahu spent enough time in the states to be familiar with it, and its intended meaning, i.e. we gotta have a serious talk about critically important matters, like NOW. I'm sure it was not lost on Bibi that using that particular phrase to convey the extreme importance of a serious talk, also softened the delivery with a bit of humor. Joe knows the game better that anyone. He chose his words carefully, I'm sure. I'm also sure that he's fed up to the teeth Netanyahu's cavalier attitude toward the harm inflicted on Palestinian civilians, who are also victims of Hamas.

(16,869 posts)Biden supports Israel, everybody knows that. It matters who makes remarks like that, and Biden isn't trying to be sarcastic. It's just a joke. Now if Mike Johnson made the same remark, it wouldn't be funny at all.

as a politician with none of his citizens in the fight, that he's doing everything possible that he can.

(1,501 posts)Esteemed people waiting in line to get sage advice or to commend Joe for doing genuinely great work.
Mike Johnson wincing like he was trying to hold in 12 farts up behind him. Kamala genuinely proud and presiding.
People kept coming up with things for him to sign, and he arranged for a kid to come out and meet him I think. He kept referring to an aide behind him to follow up, get names, arrange the next steps.
A big powwow with the Joint Chiefs, commending them together as the word's finest military force.
Lots of positive sound bites, hope we hear more. And I hope it was intentional.
