The MAGA enemies list is growing, and so are the odds that you're on it

As the Republican primaries slog toward the climax of a likely Trump nomination, I can’t help thinking that we as a country are still dramatically underreacting to the MAGA threat. The fact that Trump has even made it this far is proof of that.

When will we wake up?

I’ll say this: One thing that wakes you up is seeing your name on an enemies list.

When I was 12, the Columbine High School massacre happened. A troubled kid in my upstate New York school was apparently influenced by the shooting and decided to make his own list of kids he wanted to shoot, with a rifle he already owned.

To Trump, Democrats and liberals have been the enemy since day one, and it's only gotten worse.

Some are on the list several times, in several different ways.

However, the numbers in the general election do not show that to be the case. Although we do not register by party affiliation here, I wish we did.

Most independents lean one way or the other. Very few are truly independent or non-partisan. The percentage of true independents is rarely more than single digits.

The 43% are essentially Republicans who just choose to register or identify as independents. Also, many states don't have party registration.

So, the percentage of Republicans is higher than 1/3. It's more like 44% (math below). That partly explains why Trump's approval rating is consistently higher than the percentage of people who ID as Republicans.

Example, using Gallup's numbers.

Republicans: 25%
Democrats: 27%
Independents: 45%

Independent leaners:
Republicans: 43%
Democrats: 46%

Total Republicans, plus leaners: 25% + (0.45 x 0.43) = 44.3%
Total Democrats, plus leaners: 27% + (0.45 x 0.46) = 47.7%
Total true Independents: the remaining 8%.

Your neighbor annoys you? They aren't patriotic or christian enough? They are kind of weird and keep to themselves?

Just report them to the Gestapo/Stasi and they will mysteriously disappear, never to be heard from again:

It’s been estimated that only 15 per cent of Gestapo cases started because of surveillance operations. A far greater number began following a tip-off from a member of the public. Every allegation, no matter how trivial, was investigated with meticulous and time-consuming thoroughness. It’s been estimated that about 40 per cent of these denunciations were personally motivated. A Berlin stoker reported a prostitute who gave him venereal disease. She was placed in a concentration camp. Gestapo officers were extremely wary of husbands and wives who informed on each other. A housewife in Mannheim told the Gestapo her husband was making derogatory comments about Hitler’s regime. After a lengthy investigation, it emerged that the wife wanted her husband out of the way to continue a love affair with an off-duty soldier. In another case, two married doctors were involved. The wife accused the husband of carrying out illegal abortions. This led to his arrest and imprisonment. The husband claimed his wife had a vengeful motive. The husband had passed on a sexually transmitted disease to his wife, while carrying on a love affair. Her motive was revenge, but he served eight months in prison before this was finally established.

why not show that.

To not show at least the part his name is on adds to public doubt and distrust. To do so would be in the national interest of voters.

I could be wrong but I'd wager there are many many rethugs who wouldn't want to be a member of a political party that maintains enemies lists & runs candidates who speak of mass deportation camps.

Knowing the facts of the existence of a verified enemies list in their party would help doubtful rethug voters make their decision to leave that party. We've seen a steady stream of low and high visibility defections for years, and this would increase that momentum.

I live in a small town and am related to many, by marriage or blood, who are well armed.

Besides, if I was worried about ending up on an enemies list, I wouldn't be posting here as DU can be hacked and our identities made known. But as I have no concern about that, I post.

I'll have to call my sister tonight and tell her that our conversations of the past several years (since about 2016) where we thought Agent Mike might be listening in, may have helped us attain this high honor. I believe every weekly conversation we had started with one or the other of us saying, "Is that f***** dead yet?"
