While country is traditionally thought of as a conservative genre of music, there are a surprising amount of liberals in country music. Liberal country singers vary greatly on the political spectrum in terms of how far left they lean. Some famous country singers who are Democrats donate money to politicians. Other iconic country musicians go as far as to support liberal causes within their own lyrics. In fact, a few more democratic country singers have even alienated fans because of their political commentary.

It is of my opinion that Dolly Parton should have been on this list.

(510 posts)Incredibly, the late Trump-loving Kenny Rogers had a hit with an anti-war song in the late 1960s: "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" (Kenny Rogers and the First Edition).
Extract: Ruby, dont take your love to town It wasnt me that started that old crazy Asian war But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chore And yes, its true that Im not the man I used to be Oh, Ruby, I still need some company.
The lyricist claims the song was about a crippled WWII veteran whose wife is going to town to have fun, but who in the 1940s referred to the Pacific Campaign against Imperial Japan as an "old crazy Asian war'?
And in 1969 conservative Glen Campbell (terrific voice) had a hit with the terrific anti-Viet Nam war song "Galveston."
Extract: Galveston, I am so afraid of dying / Before I dry the tears shes crying.

(5,410 posts)LOTS of people were seduced by Trump.... particularly older people.
Whatever good she had done in her younger years,
I am not going to completely cancel it out just because she backed Trump as an old lady...
My favorite Loretta Lynn song, as portrayed by Sissy Spacek in 'Coal Miner's Daughter'
(Interestingly, I was not a fan nor even knew much of Loretta Lynn, other than the name,
before seeing that movie-- which was ACCIDENTALLY recorded by my VCR,
after the movie which I was actually trying to record...
the movie was near 20 years old when that happened,
but I was none-the-less enlightened....
Now I also enjoy Patsy Cline and of COURSE, Johnny Cash,
even though I am more of a rocker, I still recall hearing
"My name is SUE--- HOW DO YOU DO??" as a small child,
since that song was a crossover into 'popular' AM radio....
