Do people forget that it was Garland who fought to obtain the stolen top secret classified documents from Trump?
Do people forget that scapegoating Garland for what HUR did is doing 'own the libs’ FOR MAGAts and corporate media?
Do people have a memory lapse of the manymanymany timelines of Garland's work posted on DU?
Do Garland detractors have a memory lapse that their beef is with Republicans and the grind of due process, not Garland?
I’ll venture an answer:
On the one hand, they don't. It's been their irrational decision to ignore those timelines and pick at Garland's character and judgment.
But on the other hand -- and in case one honestly needs a memory jog, here again, is the Garland timeline, this time with explanations for “delays.”
(I'm not going back to try to unbold everything after July 22 -- that's a DU text error, not mine).

Mar 10 2021: Merrick Garland confirmed as AG by Congress -- TWO MONTHS AFTER BIDEN ASSUMED OFFICE
Mar 11 2021: AG Garland assumes office
Apr 21 2021: Deputy AG Lisa O. Monaco assumes office -- THREE MONTHS AFTER BIDEN ASSUMED OFFICE
Mar 11 2021 Garland headed the Jan 6 arrests and prosecutions, investigation,
Garland's FBI began arrests on Jan 6 2021 that continue to this day. The FBI is DOJ.
Mar 11 2021- Nov 18 2022 -- Garland's DOJ prosecuted all new and outstanding cases,
WHILE Garland hired new personnel to replace Barrs' assistant AG’s, deputies and 8 Division heads,
Republicans STILL made Garland wait MONTHS for his division heads' confirmations;
July 2021 -- Republicans did not confirm Kenneth Polite to head the DOJ's Criminal Division -- FOUR MONTHS AFTER GARLAND ASSUMED OFFICE

THE STOLEN DOCUMENTS CASE? IT WAS GARLAND'S
February 18, 2022 -- The National Archives tells Congress that Trump took classified information to his Florida home after leaving the White House.
April 7, 2022 -- Sources confirm to Reuters that the U.S. Justice Department was investigating Trump's removal of official presidential records from the White House.
April 11, 2022-- The White House Counsel's Office under Biden formally requests that the National Archives give the FBI access to the 15 boxes.
-- The National Archives notifies Trump's representatives about the FBI review in an April 12 letter.
April 29 and May 1, 2022 -- Trump lawyer Evan Corcoran seeks to delay disclosure to the FBI in two letters sent to the National Archives.
May 10, 2022 -- Acting U.S. Archivist, Debra Steidel Wall -- NOT DOJ -- responds to Corcoran, rejecting Trump's requested delay and refusing his "'protective' claim of privilege," adding that the FBI can access the records as soon as May 12. The letter is LATER made public August 23 and notes hundreds of pages of classified documents were recovered so far.
May 11, 2022 -- Jay Bratt, chief of counterintelligence and export control at the U.S. Justice Department's National Security Division, Trump's custodian of records appear before a federal grand jury in Washington, Bratt, in a separate letter to Corcoran, says the representative can comply with the subpoena by giving the FBI "any responsive documents" and a sworn statement, instead of appearing in court.
-- May 11 2022: Garland's DOJ Grand jury is convened until March 2024
June 3 2022 -- Garland's DOJ Grand jury subpoenas Trump for remaining docs in Maralago, lawyers for Trump "certifying" that there were no more; Trump stole 11,000 government docs, 300 classified docs — lawyers earlier handed over even more to the National Archive
June 3, 2022 -- A Trump representative, whose name is redacted in the Justice Department filing, asserts that "a diligent search" was conducted for documents at Mar-a-Lago removed from the White House and that "any and all responsive documents accompany this certification."
July 1: the House special committee on Jan 6 convenes
July 22 2022 : Garland's Grand jury testimony by Marc Short, Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff; & Short's counsel Greg Jacob
August 8, 2022 -- Federal agents execute a search warrant at Trump's Florida property, uncovering 13 boxes or containers with documents marked classified — "more than twice the amount produced June 3 in response to the grand jury subpoena." Trump was not at the property at the time, and media reports showed him at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
-- A photo released in a court filing later that month shows some of the seized documents with clear markings of "Top Secret" and "Secret."
-- Trump, in a post online, says the records were "all declassified" and placed in "secure storage." A day later, Trump, who continues to hint at a possible 2024 run for the presidency, cites the FBI search in a campaign fundraising appeal.
August 12, 2022 -- The FBI's search warrant is released to the public following approval by U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart.
August 22, 2022 -- Trump separately asks the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida for a so-called special master to review the documents, prompting the Justice Department's 54-page response on Tuesday.
August 23, 2022 -- The National Archives publicly releases its May 10 letter to Trump's attorney.
August 26, 2022 -- The Justice Department releases a heavily redacted affidavit — a sworn statement outlining the evidence giving law enforcement officials probable cause to ask a judge to approve a search warrant — after media outlets sued for its release. A judge approved its release.
August 30, 2022 -- The department files its response to Trump's request for a special master review.
September 1, 2022 -- At a hearing in West Palm Beach, Cannon suggests she's willing to accede to Trump's request and appoint a special master to review the documents.
Sept 2 2022: Garland's Grand jury subpoenaed testimony from Pat Cipollone, one of the participants in
a) WH meeting Dec 18 2020, that included Giuliani, Powell, Flynn, Patrick Byrne of Overstock,
b) Cipollone sat in on Jan 3 2021 DOJ official meeting with Trump, and
c) Cipollone was in direct contact with trump on Jan 6 during capitol insurrection, and did nothing when Meadows told him Trump didn’t want to interfere with rioters calling for hanging Mike Pence)

GARLAND DETRACTORS’ BEEF IS WITH REPUBLICANS & DUE PROCESS, NOT GARLAND.
STAY CLEAR AND REMEMBER:
-- Biden doesn’t have a memory lapse about Garland.
-- It was Garland's brilliant decision, and Garland's only, to bring Jack Smith in from the Hague.
NOT Biden’s, NOT Democrats’, NOT Obama’s, not anyone else who can be named.
As for Garland’s resignation & replacement, who?!
There does not now exist any other lawyer or judge connected to the DOJ’s work who could have done a better job, nevermind would have. But sure, name anyone anyway.
I myself could suggest that Biden name Jack Smith as Garland's successor, but
because of REPUBLICANS' and DUE PROCESS'S delays -- and not Garland -- I won’t,
because after Biden wins in November, Smith will still be prosecuting Trump, then his aiders/abetters/accessories after the fact. So Smith can't be Garland's replacement. YET.
Rule of law enforcement by the planet’s biggest law firm is a fuckton of work, the timeline of which is dragged down by unfair Republican obstruction and unfair due process’s legal delays. (We also had a discussion last year about why there are unfair differences in due process)
Garland himself has persisted, lived and breathed, and dedicated himself to the DOJ’s work of saving our democracy.
Garland is to be commended, not condemned.
So what if Garland let Hur take the heat for HUR'S report. SO WHAT! Good on Garland to let HUR be slammed for being political. Oops. Memory lapse. 
To slam Garland himself is to slam his work; but Garland has lived and breathed this DOJ from day one.
And not just slamming his work.
Know why some mock the idea that to slam Garland is to disrespect President Biden and the work of House Select Democrats and lawyers of the Jan 6 committee? Because some want to. Because here in this court of public opinion some want to appear to win on the facts and merit when some don't.
Some here have memory lapses, and like Joe Biden, are human.
In 2024 ain’t nobody got time for any lapses but Joe's. IMHO.
