Donald Trumps expected massive loss to the New York Attorney General in his bank fraud case suddenly took a turn for the worse on Tuesday, when lies that his longtime company accountant apparently told on the stand potentially opened the door for an even more devastating multi-million dollar judgment that could destroy the Trump Organization.
In an email to the AG and Trump defense team on Monday, Justice Arthur F. Engoron asked for both sides to respond to the news that former Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg is secretly negotiating a guilty plea with another law enforcement agency: the Manhattan District Attorney.
Last week, The New York Times reported that DA Alvin Bragg Jr. is coming down hard on Weisselberg for lying under oath to the AGs office in an interview ahead of the three-month civil trial that just wrapped up.
As the presiding magistrate, the trier of fact, and the judge of credibility, I of course want to know whether Mr. Weisselberg is now changing his tune, and whether he is admitting he lied under oath in my courtroom at this trial, Engoron wrote.

(5,096 posts)First he pisses the judge off numerous times during trial, then he fires his lawyer, then his 'reliable' accountant flips publicly, now the judge wants to know if the accountant committed perjury while testifying in his courtroom. Especially since the judge has not decided yet on how much money the golden idol will be penalized. Love it when a good thing comes together. Guess he will have to go back on the begging trail trying to scam more money out of his dumbarse fans.

(12,520 posts)I often think of scenes from the Untouchables as these trials are commencing. Especially the one where the judge has to recuse himself because obviously he is on Capones bribery list.
Thanks for the photo.

(36,857 posts)The only thing that mattered to the orange dipshit was making the Forbes list. Without any doubt his accountant was ordered to lie or he would have been out of a job. Rather than finally telling the truth about that while under oath which would have undoubtedly destroyed his boss, he decided to continue with the lie and risk far greater personal peril.
The sad part is even if he now finally tells the truth, it won't really matter because he has lost every bit of credibility he might have once had. He is just as deplorable and deserves everything he has coming to him.

(6,987 posts)Could be that Weisselberg is now singing to the Feds because he found out his check had more bounce in it than a tennis ball.
Smellvis said "Smell This" and the stench was too much for the bench.

(36,857 posts)Right now we don't know for sure what the perjury is about, but speculation is that he blatantly lied about the orange dipshit's apartment square footage saying to the court he wasn't concerned about it when Forbes had the communications from him saying he dogged them about it for years.

(4,280 posts)also give them a short leash be making them respond by Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. and not letting them drag a response for weeks and weeks. Weaselnuts for all of his supposed "smarts" played this really stupid for himself and his family. If he had gone to the state and the Feds and agreed to come clean completely he could have gotten a plea deal to spare himself jail time and maybe only minor penalties for any complicit family members. But the wise guys figure they will always beat the law and to an extent, given enough money for lawyers etc., they do. But not always. So Weaselnuts already spent 90+ days at Rikers in the infirmary wing for his protection. He then came out and apparently continued on with the lies. 90 days taught him nothing and his promises of cooperation have been shown to be riddled with more lies. Maybe spending 2-3 years in Rikers would have a bit more impact.

(4,280 posts)come from the parking lot attorney? He seemed to be ditching her but so far she is, to the best of our knowledge, the attorney of record for the case. Maybe it comes from that other guy who sat at the table. I don't recall if the two were from the same firm. I can imagine the filing will just be a denial that they or their client know anything about the perjury or negotiations.
