Just a normal January day in Minnesota, 55F, sunny, me stacking firewood in a t-shirt and Crocs

Swatting at boxelder beetles and a yellowjacket wasp. And yelling at my hollyhocks and irises that it's not time to sprout yet, damn it!

Not a patch of snow left to be found.

This is really, really weird. It was colder, and we had more snow, on Halloween than the last day of January.

but unlike my normal winter walks in which I dress as for an expedition to Antarctica - down parka, wool hat, ski pants, lined gloves, boots with ice cleats - I wore cotton running pants, a sweat shirt and sneakers. And I got sweaty. In general I like not having to deal with snow up to my navel, but this is just kinda wrong.

3. Very weird. I spent a decade one winter in North Dakota in the '70s, nothing like this back then . . .

if I remember correctly, a warm day in January it got up to the 20s and the wind didn't blow.I remember riding my bike on a "balmy" day like that, but I was crazy back then and, as I said, the wind wasn't blowing.

7. It was 48 in WNC where I was also splitting wood but not worrying about Crocs - or Gators either.

And who would cut wood without hard-soled shoes and be dumb enough to cut wood that's inside a T-Shirt?

What do they smoke in Minnesota? Canadian wildfires? Snow at Halloween? Hell, we had no snow in January at all!

about the great unseasonal weather heading our way this next week and how the latest models show warm weather through at least Valentine's Day. Yep, nothing to see here.

I lived in Minneapolis for just under 2 years, 1982-83. The two winters I was there were EXTREMELY cold, even colder than what I'd experienced growing up in northern New York State.

My big question is, does the Winter Festival in St. Paul still happen?
