In It to Win It

I'm watching Gavin Newsom's interview with Bill Maher and

he's very good at talking about issues, even issues that perceptibly work against him. Not that this is the first time I've noticed, but it makes me think about him running for President, how he wouldn't win because he's too liberal and from a coastal state, and how he wouldn't appeal to "Middle America."

I'm watching him and it just makes me think he might be able to change some perceptions when he gets out in front of people if he hits the campaign trail for President.

He's an appealing person and he's smooth with his words. He's not afraid to be confronted with issues that he's, perceptibly, not strong with and talk about it without making it sound gaslighting and nagging.

* People are fat.
* Vaccines & doctors are stupid.
* Masks are dumb.
* Marriage is for fools.
* Kids suck.
* If it’s not about me, then I don’t care.

* Have I told you my ABC network show, Politically Incorrect, was cancelled?
* Let's go to Vegas if you're a special guest.
ON EDIT: * (mocking/shaming/giggling) I accept Gays but it's all about anal repulsing me.

The final straw was when he had NYT writer Bari Weiss on his show and announced that "Covid is over, move on losers" as though they have any say at all. Bill was pissed off since the greedy ass couldn't do stand-up during Covid. Boo fucking hoo, Bill! He is not a liberal, he is a Libertarian and that sucks in my book.

"In January 2022, Weiss was criticized by a doctor appearing on CNN for her comments on the late night talk show Real Time with Bill Maher criticizing COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, citing that the COVID-19 pandemic response had resulted in mental health issues and that as a result she was "done with COVID".

There’s a variety of views and opinions on things. I don’t have to agree with everything anyone says. They can even be really wrong in some things and that’s fine. But bigotry is something I will not support and he’s crossed way into that the last couple years. He even went so far as to say “trans supporters are grooming school children to be trans.” It was disgusting and I haven’t watched him since d.

Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom. I wouldn’t dream of betting against either of them.

Only advantage for Kamala might be if Biden decides to step aside during his 2nd term and Harris is running as President, otherwise they’re both excellent.

And Maher replied, "You're good at this."

Which was exactly what I was thinking. The man is ridiculously good at answering policy questions. I was a little annoyed with Maher when he asked about housing regulations, because even I knew what the state had been doing, particularly with San Francisco, and it felt like Maher didn't. I would have forgiven Newsom for responding, "Did you not see us come in and kick the city's ass for dragging its feet?"

Similar with the Hollywood strike. Newsom's answer was exactly what I expected. I'm not even sure why Maher asked the question, because it just made it sound like he hadn't paid attention.

to rural Californians when two-thirds of the state is very deeply red even though it's on the coast and not the heartland. The (since 2016 popular with not only the right-wing) "coastal elites" insult, that Democrats ignore working/middle classes and only care about wealthy donors. Still hear that today, it's not true and needs to stop.

His aura kind of comes off as a “Generic Politician” type, like basically a minor side character on a TV show or movie where they need some actor to play a President/Senator/Mayor who’s part of the story but not the main character. It’s weird—I don’t know how to explain it.

But hey, he says most of the right things and I have no problem of him taking a shot in 2028. Although he’s going to have to get past that whole “liberal California politician” which will be painted (unfairly) as a negative.

But he's seemingly not afraid to dive into it and tackle that narrative head on. He seems willing to engage with people, go to town halls, and simply talk to voters about it. That's what makes me think "maybe he can change some minds about that perception", obviously not everyone (or even a majority) but just enough people. Maybe change some minds from "unlikely Newsom voters" to "Newsom curious."

zoning and environmental laws in communities that are already overbuilt. The local residents have no say in opposing the development and the required numbers for "affordable housing" units to be built are based on fabricated data. And the housing being forced on us is NOT affordable and is being built in high density, desirable tourist areas where resources such as fresh water are already in short supply.

He is not a good orator either. We need someone who is inspirational in 2028. There are plenty of other people who would make far better candidates then.
