Texans get a lot of crap here

It would be good to remember that more than 5 million Texans voted for Biden in 2020. A total only surpassed by California. We Democrats suffer enough abuse in our own state and it is depressing that it happens here on a regular basis. And I am not talking about comments relating to political office holders. Earlier today there was a post wishing all Texans to drown. This apparently is not a safe place for Texas Democrats.

of Amendment 2 that prohibited enacting anti-discrimination measures and particularly targeted gays. Boycotts followed, as did years and years of RW extremists in the State Houses and Governor's seat. While I took a professional "hit" I did everything possible to move back and to fight back. In 2018, Colorado officially turned blue from its long transition from deep "red" to "swing state" to purple...

I've worked for decades on that campaign and know how tenuous change can be. I likewise have phone-banked for Texas in every Mid-term and Presidential year this past decade.

I am sorry for the callous post you mentioned which I (fortunately) missed. It was way out of line, the same as some comments toward Colorado wildfire victims near CO Springs in recent years "deserving" it because they house Focus on the Family and other far RW groups. And that is hate directed at a small red area of a very blue state.

Still, as a wise person told me years ago, take that disgruntlement and focus it back on change. Others will help if they see such efforts in play.

Several close colleagues live there who once worked for my company or people I've worked closely with at one of our prime contractors. Good people and the food is to die for. I've jokingly asked those I'm close to if they'd like to move to my part of the world and the answer is always ..."naaa, I'd freeze to death up there"...ERCOT jokes aside. It's a shame the state government is such a mess but that's not reflective of every Texan and we need to remember that.

Rednecks gonna redneck, no matter where they're from. Even my officially blue state (IL) has its share. We're just lucky to have big blue Chjcago on the Dem side of the balance sheet.

The farther south you go in this state, the redder (and the redneckier) it gets. Darren Bailey, the clown who ran for governor on the GOP ticket in 2022, was a prime example. Deep southern Illinois is a whole different world.

I'll admit I've done my share of dumping on Texas, as well as Florida, but I have never wished ill on individual Texans or Floridians. When I say F*** Texas (or Florida), I'm talking about those who run the government in that state.

I don't plan to quit criticizing either state government (or any other that enacts hateful laws), but I'll try to do a better job of clarifying where my scorn is aimed going forward.

It's the one large city in the state I can't stand. Unfortunately, my stepsister lives there, so I find myself forced to spend more time there than I'd ever want.

Much prefer San Antonio, with El Paso a close second, and Dallas a distant third. Houston would be higher up the list if it weren't for the traffic and the unbreathable air.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majority_minority_in_the_United_States
Majority minority in the United States

In the United States of America, majority-minority area or minority-majority area is a term describing a U.S. state or jurisdiction whose population is composed of less than 50% non-Hispanic whites. Racial data is derived from self-identification questions on the U.S. Census and on U.S. Census Bureau estimates. (See Race and ethnicity in the United States Census). The term is often used in voting rights law to designate voting districts that are designed under the Voting Rights Act to enable ethnic or language minorities "the opportunity to elect their candidate of choice." In that context, the term was first used by the Supreme Court in 1977. The Court had previously used the term in employment discrimination and labor relations cases.

Is that a significant percentage of that minority population making up the majority isn't old enough to vote. Texas is one of the states with one of the youngest populations, and it's v brown. But it's young as in under 18, so the impact hasn't hit yet. Once that kicks in hard enough, then Texas will start turning blue.

We came close a few years ago to getting a democratic governor. We have not given up. Yes, a lot of Texans are full of BS, but it is a great state that jas turned sour. I’m almost ashamed to admit, I am a Texan, but I am going to get it changed. we will get Abbott this time

We are all the Republican "Florida Man." I have voted for over 50 years now, I have never missed a vote, and in all that time I voted for one Republican; a sheriff running against a known crook. However, I am damned as a Floridian as if I just haven done enough; I have gotten used to it.

— but I don’t understand anyone anywhere who supports the GOP in any form.

Plenty of good people in Texas. My very liberal aunts live in Houston, and my liberal uncle came from one of the oldest and wealthiest families in the state.

I tried to stay. But California called, and I had to go. Two kids later, I live in one of the most liberal towns in the state — Trump never broke ten percent here, not even close. My kids are well educated professionals — a math teacher and a lawyer — and this is my home.

Nonetheless — I still remember my time in Texas, and the good people I met there. Abbot belongs in prison before he gets to hell, but I understand the people who love the state and hate the GOP.

There are places like it all over the US.

It is pretty hard to list the names of every Texan who voted Republican so many of us just say ,"Texas or Florida or Tennessee" or whatever the case might be.
Best thing you can do is work to make sure nobody can say it again after the next election.

The problem I have with Texas is it's leadership and gun culture. I have nothing but admiration for the Democrats and Liberals who are brave enough to stand up to the very aggressive conservatives down there.

People need to stop being personally insulted when it is the State that is insulted.

One can say I was born in "State".
One can say I live in "State", love "State", etc.
No problem.

It is a problem when people say "State" is me.
It is not true.
Such personal identity issues and conflating "I" with what(ever) is not-Me, not I, is the source of so many human problems, from confused teenagers to national identities engaged in the activity of eliminating other national identities.

I identify with the Democratic Party. I do not identify as the Democratic Party.
I may be admonished to be my brother's keeper, but no one says I should be my brother.
So insult him as you will; if you are right. I am not insulted. The truth is an antidote to insult.

The people here are just wonderful. They are kind, polite and generous. Currently we are working to get Veronoca Carbajal elected to City Council as a pollution fighter and all around good person. Yesterday it was Low Riders For Veronica. It is the safest large city n the USA and it is currently 63 degrees and sunny. I'm gonna die here. What outsiders don't understand about Texas poltics is how the fracking billionaires have warped the whole system. That doesn't mean the people are bad. Besides, El Chuco is about 80% Democratic Party.

However, there are also some of the absolute worst Americans who live there as well, starting with the governor. Sometimes calling them out paints all Texans with too broad a brush.

Let's hope Beto and his funding from the Soros foundation make the difference going forward in their work to turn Texas blue. When enough Texans are sick and tired enough of minority rule, it will happen. The millions of passive, non-voters there are the biggest challenge.

Without the electoral college, there would be no Us v Them in national politics. A single vote in Texas would actually have meaning, instead of being a protest vote.

Donate to help Colin Allred defeat Ted Cruz!

Colin is a fourth-generation Texan. He was raised in Dallas by a single mom who was a public school teacher and often worked two jobs to make ends meet. With a lot of support along the way, Colin was able to chase his version of the American dream: He earned a full ride football scholarship to Baylor University and went on to play in the NFL before going to law school to become a civil rights lawyer.

He ran for Congress to give more Texas kids a chance to achieve their dreams, and with the help of a broad coalition of Texans, he defeated a 22-year GOP incumbent. Now, he’s running to defeat Ted Cruz and, with a history of bipartisanship and overcoming tough odds, experts agree he’s got a real chance.

But Ted Cruz has over $5.7 million in the bank. It’s going to take a powerful grassroots movement to take him down. So we’re asking: Will you chip in any amount before our midnight fundraising deadline to help Colin fire Ted Cruz?

It's that the fast-growing Hispanic population is so young--as in under 18.

Every year that passes, those young Hispanics come of age and become a bigger share of the adult pie, but it's not an overnight thing. One day, the right percent of those young Hispanics will be eligible to vote, will be into voting (past 25), and it will be like a switch flips. Texas will start getting hard purple, then blue.

Then it's over for the traitor thugs.

I met Obama before he was elected, and Beto before he was cool. I have been a delegate to the state Democratic convention and most recently with the LWV (altough as a male). Watch who you tar. that way!

You have horrible political leadership in TX and too many eedjits there who think that they, and they alone, are entitled to speak for everyone! That is also true of my own birth state (MT) right now and even more so in other "red" states.

My maternal grandmother was born and raised in TX and I personally know many good people who have lived there and live there still. That is the same with MT. I am fortunate to be a citizen of a "blue" state (MD) right now and even more fortunate to be able to reside in Europe.

Much as I grieve for many statements I see here, specifically wrt the current situation in the MidEast, where I believe that too many are misinformed or biased and/or do not wish to educate themselves, I cannot condemn them globally if for no other reason than that they do not have the hands-on knowledge or experiences that I do. I also realize that they are good people with whom I have more in common than not.

Unfortunately, there are bad people of every ilk everywhere, just as there are people in power everywhere who should NOT be. These people tarnish the names of all who are unfortunate enough to be within their sway, whether by ethnicity or geographical location..

This is why the price of liberty is eternal vigilance - which has absolutely NOTHING to do with guns. That eternal vigilance has to do with PAYING ATTENTION to what is happening politically and speaking out against those people and policies who are doing everything they can to make our society a nightmare for humanity.

It is not right for ANY of us to condemn everyone of ANY color, religion, gender, ethnicity, geograpical location, or anything else simply because.there are individuals who belong to those groups who are absolutely deplorable, no matter how awful or strident those individuals may be.

103. New George Soros-backed, Democratic PAC aims to turn Texas blue
Tue Jan 16, 2024, 12:34 PM
Jan 2024

This is encouraging. Texas is not a red state or a blue state but a non-voting state. If we can improve voter turnout, Texas will turn blue

https://www.texastribune.org/2024/01/12/texas-majority-pac-george-soros-democrats-fundraising/

A new group, run by alums of Beto O’Rourke’s 2022 campaign and funded by Democratic megadonor George Soros, has emerged this election cycle to take on the age-old challenge of turning Texas blue.

Texas Majority PAC has kept a relatively low profile since forming over a year ago in the wake of the 2022 election. But it raised $2.25 million through last year, and campaign finance reports due Tuesday are expected to show how the group — and Soros — have been spreading their money around the state.

Working with the PAC, Soros made six-figure donations to three county parties — Dallas, Cameron, and Hidalgo — and a few other groups that have a regional focus, according to figures first shared with The Texas Tribune.

The contributions are intended to help the entities register, contact and turn out voters “on a scale never seen before, year after year, in the key regions of our state,” the PAC’s deputy executive director, Katherine Fischer, said in a statement.....

The PAC represents the latest in a long line of groups who have promised to mobilize more Democratic voters in Texas, a mission shared by the state Democratic Party. Both the PAC and party publicly say they welcome each other’s help, though there have been signs of tension privately as Democrats begin another critical election year.
