(14,563 posts)that is one hell of a slapback to what the R's have been pulling.
[Intro]
Hey, look, look, look, but look
We going all the way up, man
We going past what we been like
Taking this shit back to the Westside
(Is he 'bout to give 'em something viral?)
Fine cash shit
Yeah, uh
[Verse 1]
Bust-down chain, that was thirty bands
Bust-down wrist, match my bust-down thirty-inch
Walk up in the club poppin' shit like it was Doublemint
Lookin' for a ten, we only settle when it's settlements
Uh, uh, uh, let 'em slide, yeah
Last year was a quiet year
Now I'm on Mariah
I'm finna take it higher, okay
Let 'em slide, yeah
Last year was a quiet year
Tеll 'em, "Come outside"
Baby, wе ain't tryna hide
[Pre-Chorus]
You know what I'm on, I'm on a break
You know when I'm back, it's all for take
You know that I'm ready for everything
You know when I play, it's all for keeps, uh, uh
[Chorus]
Is he up to somethin' only I know?
Is he 'bout to hit 'em with the highnote?
Is he 'bout to give 'em somethin' viral?
Is he 'bout to hit 'em with the high note?
[Verse 2]
Which way that we goin'? Hmm, this way
Took 'em to the telly and I told 'em it's a dizz-ate
Turn up, baby, we gon' have to check out at, like, six-A
Really, it's that eizz-ight, but your Uber on the wiz-ay
Back-back-back up out the gravesite
Bitch, I'm back like J Christ
I'm finna get the gays hyped
I'm finna take it yay-high
Back up out the gravesite
Bitch, I'm back like J Christ
I'm finna take it, uh, uh
I'm finna take it yay-high
[Pre-Chorus]
You know what I'm on, I'm on a break
You know when I'm back, it's all for take
You know that I'm ready for everything
You know when I play, it's all for keeps, uh, uh

(102,568 posts)which I found to be absurd... I am at best agnostic but like others here really resent the hypocrisy of the RW fundamentalists. That said, there are liberal Christians and others who truly try to promote the "best and sincere" of the tenets of Jesus that are being ignored by RW- supposed "Proponents." It is for that former group that I express discomfort with this video. Yeah, my view won't be popular among many on DU, but I just can't see disparaging the non-hypocrites who are trying to make a difference--just because many/most of us don't agree with religion in general. Respect goes both directions and I'd feel similarly about an anti-atheist mocking video or one targeting Buddhists, Muslims, or Jews.

(10,589 posts)doesn't matter if they are bible believers or those that renegotiate the text to something more "palatable". I don't have a problem offending "liberal" or "progressive" christians as they still believe in the book where those beliefs are written down and those beliefs still cause harm every day.

(9,195 posts)I like Lil Nas X. He's known for "Montero", but I keep coming back to "Industry Baby" and "Panini" on my playlist (the video for "Industry Baby" is very NSFW in the best ways). And if you've never seen it, catch his rendition of "Jolene".
This song is just . . . samey. So we're left with a video that seems kind of overdone. It's not going to shock or even raise the eyebrows of Millennials or Gen Z. I'm not sure what would shock us. Maybe an artist actually hanging dong in a video? And Hollywood's already going there (saw Saltburn over the weekend. Barry Keoghan is . . . a whole thing).
So I guess it'll end in a media circle jerk. Fox will be outraged and get ratings. And people will be curious and watch the video so Nas gets views. Circular.
But as a song/video, it's not very interesting. His other videos are a lot better.
