Trump is a mob boss with an army of enforcers, nothing to be scoffed at.
Make Trump angry and death threats are sure to follow.
Trump cannot defend his crimes in a courtroom, he doesn't have the evidence or facts, so he is doing a different kind of defense, intimidation.
Trump wants judges to fear him (a 5,000 dollar fine is laughable) wants Attorney Generals to fear him, wants prosecutors to fear him, wants Supreme Court justices to fear him. (His claim of divine right of a king should have been immediately not accepted by the court) not rejected, not accepted, Trump wants witnesses to fear him, they too get death threats, Trump wants the jury to fear him, more death threats.
Oh and his best defense is delay. The DC Appeals court will make a ruling by mid January on Trump's divine right claim, and then it goes to the Supreme Court, unless Trump appeals to the entire Appeals court, if not, the Supreme Court should immediately reject hearing the appeal, but it won't, it will take its time to rule on the Divinity of Trump.
Numerous people have taken on "the Don," E. Jean Carroll, a 5 year struggle, Letitia James, a 4-5 year struggle, Fani Willis, since March of 2021, Jack Smith., and judge Chutkan, all very brave people.
Trump has been treated with kid gloves his entire life, will those gloves ever come off?
If Trump is convicted, polls say, he loses the election.
Time Matters.

(7,248 posts)Any variance or failure to convict will be a crack in the necessary conclusion that he is undeniably guilty of betraying his office and the American people. If there are questions about any evidence those will be the foundation of denial by die-hards en masse. No misjudgement can be allowed. He and his cohorts must remain in prison until they die. They gambled and lost. It's time to pay up.

(26,565 posts)Rump knows the value of that information and set about collecting all he could find on each one of them. I believe that, to make it as a repuQ politician, party bosses must be the sole proprietors of this dirt. Should the cat get out of the bag, party apparatchiks will wash their hands of that individual.

(22,973 posts)I led a group of townsfolks to our council meeting to protest stripping for coal and fracking for gas on our pristine watershed. Also, plans to build a coal cleaning plant in a flood plain. Some how I ended up being the spokesperson, it was the largest group of people to attend a council meeting. Yeah, my name made the front pages of our local newspapers and I ended up agreeing to run for council, and I won,
Long story short, I got death threats and a "goon squad" sat right behind my chair at every council meeting but I didn't back down because I had the people behind me, the fish commission behind me, and we ended up protecting our watershed, but I spent many sleepless nights, won't get into the details.
So from my experiences in my small town I got a taste what people are going through who take on Trump. It is fucking scary and there are so many brave people involved and we need to have their backs just like the townspeople had my back.
I think that E. Jean Carroll, with Robbie Kaplan is coming up to bat again next month. Hit him hard in his fat ass pocket book.

(10,768 posts)He will appeal the immunity grounds to the full court if he loses, and then on to the Supreme Court. If he loses there, his lawyers will have another insane defense ready to go to start the rulings and appeals process all over again. Perhaps the only way around future claims is for the DC court to say that any future claims must be brought up at trial, and I have no knowledge of whether they can even do that.

(10,702 posts)I just want to add that there are people who are right wing idiots and hate filled greedy billionaires who are NOT afraid of Trump.
Think the Koch Bros, Zuckerberg, Musk and Gates. Also Putin, Erdoğan, president of North Korea and King and Princes of Saudi. What does it say about a democratic country where their richest most successful citizens side with the enemies to democracy?

(2,916 posts)I think people are spooked by the political dimensions of this guy more than the death threats. There is no way to prosecute him without politics intruding in the courtroom in some way. They don't want to help him win, and if he does win, they don't want to end up in some gulag that he decides to create for political opponents. Probably most of all, judges don't want to see themselves as political henchmen.
Trump's whole trial defense is just to politicize as much as possible. He knows that accusations of improper politicization bring out the timidity in judges and law enforcement officials who are supposed to stay 'apolitical'.
