Last month during the search for formerly missing person Ramón Balderrama (more on that story to come) I visited Ernest E. Debs Park in Highland Park to try and narrow down the search area as we awaited new tips and information. During my visit to the park, named after the late Assemblymember, Councilman and Supervisor, Ernest Eugene Debs, of no relation to American socialist former Presidential candidate Eugene Victor Debs, I spotted a very interesting piece of art that should have rang some very important warning bells before making it to the Internet.
The painting of the Our Lady of Guadalupe, an apparition of the Virgin Mary sits at the top of the park along the roadway on concrete in front of the bench with a commanding view of the Arroyo Seco and Los Angeles. My girlfriend insisted that it was the Virgin Mary herself, even as I tried to explain that I didnt think it was quite that simple. The following day offloading the footage, I found the clip of myself slowing walking across the image GoPro camera in hand and put some gospel music on it and uploaded it to YouTube as the Virgin Mary of Debs Park, LA.

(27,711 posts)Considering that we are in the middle of a War in the Middle East and Trump is threatening a return it's apropos. Also this is one of the worlds biggest holidays most Americans don't know much about.
Plus this just happened at Disneyland:

After a video went viral showing a woman shouting I hate Mexicans in a Disneyland parking lot bathroom, a man was arrested while protesting outside her San Bernardino County home over the weekend, authorities said.
Eva Ramirez confronted the woman for making racist comments toward her and her 2-year-old son for speaking Spanish as they were heading into the Anaheim theme park on Tuesday, according to an Instagram post from Ramirez, who recorded part of the encounter.

(27,711 posts)The second half is all politics - Donald Trump and Nury Martinez. If the Mods need to send this to a sub forum thats their job. Also I do think that DU should allow discussions about major cultural issues. Journalism is good when I go out and get the story. And Democrats want the Latino vote?
You can even help me flog my blog lol

a big day. Just talked with the young man doing tree trimming here today about this and you should have seen the smile! 😄😁
Would you have objected to my Thanksgiving piece about missing persons on the grounds that it celebrated the Pilgrims too much? What if I posted a Merry Christmas post?
Asking for a friend! 😅🫠

(27,711 posts)And how that works in our modern internet life! Also Im convinced most White Americans know very little about Mexico and its culture other than tacos and margaritas.
Its a subtle argument. Im not trying to hit people over the head with religion, but rather get them thinking about Internet culture and how that intersects with current US politics!
