If Trump gets the Republican nomination, Nikki Haley should Jill Stein his ass and run as an independent.

Not likely she would do this because it would mean the absolute end of her political career, but some Republican conservative who actually cares about the Constitution and democracy more than his or her political career, if one actually exists, should do this. Split the ticket on the Mango Menace, just like the Repubes are trying to do to the Dems with Jill Stein.

but they've already repelled all the Trump humpers. Still, there might be a silent majority of Republican voters out there who would vote for one of these two.

And I hope he does - he wouldn't take any votes away from Biden, that's for sure. He's obnoxious enough that some MAGAts might vote for him over TFG because he's younger and hasn't been indicted (yet).

Most states have sore-loser laws that will keep someone off the ballot if they lost a party's primary and then decided to run as an independent.

This is likely why RFK Jr. opted to drop out instead of losing the primary and then running.

oddly enough--- just state or federal offices. Only TWO states sore loser laws apply to presidential candidates who had competed in a presidential primary. (I forget which 2 now, but they were states with very few electoral votes).

I researched this issue earlier this year.

Anyway, the primary participation of anyone now running would not prevent an independent run in the General election.

You're correct in that Nikki Haley certainly WON'T be considering it. (far too much future potential there)

And the only name I can think of that would have any real impact on Trump - is Liz Cheney. (whom I think is far too much a party loyalist to make that jump - even though she's been treated horribly by that same brand) Go ahead and prove me wrong, Liz!

of the Republican Party.

I have a feeling there is greater animosity among Republicans toward Liz Cheney because she is a strong WOMAN who had the audacity to go against Trump. They will never get over that butt-hurt.

although I will allow that (to my mind) - Cheney has made herself singular and separated herself from the pack - in going straight after the target. There's no pussyfooting around when Liz calls out Trump as a scumbag - a danger - and someone that has no business being anywhere near the White House. She makes things crystal clear. And, in the end, we're looking for voters that similarly have no use for TFG. (as opposed to his base that clearly vote for him anyway)

other than giving conservatives that can't stomach Chump somewhere to go other than Biden.

There is no Republican split of any electotal consequence.

The actual divisions are a ridiculous contest of who can be the biggest shitshow clown and who can kiss Chump's ass the most.

At this stage in our devolution, hoping for many loyal to Constitution is a farce and holding out hope for "moderates" to show up is delusional.
