Here's what happens if Donald Trump dies while running in the 2024 presidential election

https://www.businessinsider.com/if-donald-trump-dies-presidential-election-republican-candidates-2023-11

Former President Donald Trump is far and away the Republican frontrunner heading into the 2024 election.
...
If Trump dies while seeking reelection, a few different things could happen, depending on when he dies and how close it is to Election Day.
...
If Trump died during primary season — which ends in mid-June — some states may postpone their scheduled primaries.

There's some precedent for this; at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than a dozen states postponed their primaries or expanded vote-by-mail options.

First things first, I'll wake up drunk in a field if this happens. From my youth, I can lose upwards of 12-16 hours without remembering all that happened. So long as this doesn't happen on November 4, I should be good. However, I'll commit to signing and returning my mail-in ballot upon receipt.

The RNC would almost certainly meet, or try to meet, to nominate a new candidate. A week out, the chaos would be glorious if Trump dropped dead. A month out, I suspect they could meet, but would it have any impact? Two months out, definitely would meet and it might have an impact.

In terms of the various state laws, blue states would like not rush to change anything. Red states would. Purple swing states? That will be critical, methinks, to there being any chance at the GOOP mounting a switch.

I can not think of any death that I ever really celebrated. Some, brought a smirk to my face, and many I was indifferent to. But I do believe that I would party on the news of Trump's departure.

However I’d be very happy to have the defendant gone, and to chide the heartbroken Evangelicals by reminding them that this, too, is their Gawd’s will.

Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan was the Dem candidate for US Senate when he was killed in a plane crash, just a few weeks before the general election. His name could not be taken off the ballot at that time, and the election went on as if he was still alive. He (thankfully) defeated Sen. John As*croft, and his widow, Jean Carnahan, was appointed to his seat until a special election was held in 2002. She lost that election to Jim Talent(less).

after RF Kennedy was assassinated. But his delegates were free to support who they wanted out of whom was left. Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, & McGovern movement to hold the delegates as a block.

Humphrey was nominated at the convention, which featured a police riot against the anti-war protestors in the streets of Chicago where the convention was held.

When Rush Limbaugh was in his last months... really ill...

I thought out loud, Why don't rich people with lots of enemies just disappear?

Imagine the fun Limbaugh could have had by disappearing from public view and spending his last months in... I don't know... maybe Dubai? Secretly... no death announcement, no funeral announcement... just business as usual.

Have a press office employee release monthly newsletters "from" Rush... Hell, even film and record "news stories" far in advance. He could tape endorsement audio for future candidates... or comments for events that may or may not happen.

It only takes a few minutes to record Congratulations to all 30 baseball teams...

Limbaugh could have released a "Congrats Texas Rangers" audio message just last month... years after secret death...

And eventually AI could produce video of him smoking his cigar, in perfect health making whatever crass comment of the day...

There would never be "satisfaction" of ones death... they'd just linger... forever.
