(5,764 posts)Skullduggery all around. Did some You Tubing and discovered Dorothy Kilgallen was hot on the New Orleans mafia trail. She wound up dead in short order. Will be interesting to see who Reiner names.

(111,417 posts)I've always thought Jack Ruby was the key to the whole thing, a low level mobster sent in to shut up a guy they were afraid would talk.
Kilgallen was a hell of a reporter. If anyone could have gotten people to talk, it was Kilgallen.
Three weeks later, murder hit far closer to home, so my attention was shifted.
When the Warren Report came out, I still knew it was nothing but a thick coat of whitewash.

(10,131 posts)I remember parts of that day like 10 minutes ago.
I was a young boy. JFK was a real life hero to me. I idolized him.
For many, he represented hope and the right things would be done.
They stopped school when he was shot.
We listened on the radio until Walter Cronkite told us he had passed.
They dismissed us to go home.
It was a very windy fall day of very strong gusts.
The wind had leaves and everything swirling in tremendous turmoil ... which seemed somewhat symbolic for how we felt - like the whole planet seemed upset.
Going home on the bus, hardly anyone was saying anything. If they were, it was very quiet and sombre. Collectively, we all seemed to have suffered a loss. We were in shock.
When I switched buses, trucks dropped off packs of newspapers on the curb for distribution with one headline "KENNEDY DEAD". They were out so fast. It kind of bothered me that they were not more graceful or compassionate. Like his assassination, those words were so blunt and harsh. They added to the raw wound.
In the sad days that followed, I resolved that they may be able to kill President Kennedy but they were not going to be able to kill what he stood for. The gusts from that day still seem to be helping to fill my sails.

(2,044 posts)It's a loooong read at over 900 pages but worth it. Waldron has made the JFK assassination his life's work and Hartman is maybe more of a writing assistant and a deep well of historical knowledge, both putting Waldrons collection into a concise piece of reading. There are DECADES of research Waldron has put into this and fact checked the fact checks in his research. This book to me explained the most plausible and sensible iteration of what happened. He digs deep into the history, and I mean deep, of everyone thats ever been accused of being involved and nearly every conspiracy theory. Even if you don't agree with his view of the tragedy its well worth the read from a historical standpoint. I'll be interested to listen to Reiners podcast and compare notes and ideas from this book.

(5,764 posts)has written 5 books about it. He hates that the Dallas Museum is only about the Warren Commission with the single bullet theory.

(22,630 posts)because it won't change anything. In the 60 years it has been I've found that those who are in to conspiracy theories about the JFK assassination are fans of almost any conspiracy theory that come down the road. I don't need to know who really killed JFK because it's not going to change a thing.

These sentences are in the above link:
"There are CIA connections to the plot to kill Kennedy, and even President Lyndon B. Johnson -- who succeeded Kennedy -- had a significant role in the coverup, according to Rob."
So....50 years later Rob Reiner has the answer.
What do you think?.....I think Rob is full of bullshit....(maybe to sell a book?)

(2,250 posts)The plotters picked their clean up hitter with purpose.
Always bugged me that George H. W. Bush was the only person who said he couldn't recall where he was the day JFK was killed. He was CIA back then, wasn't he? And suddenly a made man. Yeah, suspicious.
