Charging Triceratops

Found in the NYT comment section of an essay warning of the dangers of Trump:

First, they let Limbaugh terrorize the nation, and I didn't speak up because I didn't listen to the radio.
Then they let Fox "news" lie every day, and I didn't speak up because I didn't watch TV.
Then they let SCOTUS ignore a state-mandated Florida recount and install Bush and Cheney, and I didn't speak up because I didn't live in Florida.
Then they pushed through Citizens United to let billionaires buy the government and I didn't speak up because I had little money.
Then they let Russia pour more money and propaganda into America, and I didn't speak up because I was distracted by football.
Then they let Trump lie thousands of times about Covid and everything else, and I didn't speak up because I was focused on my family.
Then they let an insurrection invade the halls of Congress and nearly destroy the peaceful transfer of power, and I didn't speak up because I don't live in DC.
Then when the fascists finally took over everything, I was no longer able to speak up.
(With apologies to Martin Niemoeller.)

Wouldn’t it be nice if the MSM acknowledged the stolen election of 2000 or that Ronald Regan stole the election from Jimmy Carter and was a racist and horrible president?

. . . with tons of help, over many years from MSM, turned the genial, washed-out, windbag, grade-B actor into an heroic National Monument, whilst simultaneously infesting and dismantling our government and crime-ing out the wazoo.

All the voting, all the calls and letters to senators, congress-critters, newspapers, all the demonstrations, all made little or no difference in the direction of our Ship of State.

Missiles to Iran, PATRIOT Act, Citizens United, Palin, Drumpf, hollowing out of public education, and an host of other dirty tricks and FY's to the People, thanks to that sacred bond of GOPers, billionaires, and our stenographic, propagandic mass media.

Things are a mess and not likely to be fixed before the planet is torched unless??? unless what??? Wish I knew.

I know a Republican, John Anderson ran as a fake liberal, what else was done? I don't doubt you, just curious.

is that Reagan made a deal with Iran to delay the release of American hostages which doomed Carter's reelection attempt.

This explains the last minute 8 point jump by Reagan at the last minute.

If they could take the time to investigate instead of trying to be “you heard it first here” and report the whole story it would make for a more informative audience.

This warning points out the genesis of today's gopper mess. Yes, the Reagan era turned gop into a refuge of white arrogance welcoming southern dems pissed at civil rights, but LIMBAUGH was the gopper goebbels. He slung lies and conspiracy theories daily in between disparaging feminism, the poor, civil rights, and responsible governing until all his devoted listeners wanted was revenge. No one had done that before with that large a platform. All the conservative media that followed had to engage in the same hate and dishonesty if they were to compete for the same audience. Now their frontrunner claims to his crowds "I am your retribution."

First, come 1980, people I’d known (or thought I knew) through the 70s suddenly were high on “Morning in America”

I was horrified at Reagan going for POTUS in 1976, and by 1980 it was clear that the bitter ex-Nixonians were going to install an imperial Presidency with RWR as the figurehead.

When he fooled enough people and got elected, I feared the worst. And unfortunately, I wasn’t wrong.
