No, Republicans Aren't Better at Managing the Economy Than Democrats

Democrats always do better. It’s not even close. So why doesn’t America know it? The last three Republican presidents have left a recession for a Democrat president to clean up.

My question is, why in hell do people think Republicans do better with the economy?

He's still spouting Bush Economics. He seems to have conveniently forgotten how that turned out. And he was part of it.

Republicans STILL believe that if you cut the top tax brackets, the rest will trickle down. Tax cuts stimulate the economy at first, but is not sustainable in the long run. NOR do they pay for themselves, as we have known since Reagan.

No Administration "manages the economy". They may manage Federal budgets, and in that case, yes Democrats have a better track record. Remember Clinton's balanced budget?

It is always a political talking point to imagine that the Admin really controls the economy. It proceeds as it will and is directed by forces and trends that generally transcend the Administration of the day.

Just look at the inflation of the 1970's. That crossed numerous administrations from Nixon through Reagan, both Republican and Democrat.

..of the price of gas or milk or bread. Most of them couldn't define 'economy' if asked. And at this moment in history, the price of gas is higher than the low mark in 2020. They don't know why it went low in 2020 and don't know why it went up in 2021 or why it hasn't come down or know any of the factors that drive the price of a gallon of gasoline.

As James Carville said, "It's the economy, stupid." And when the "people" think it's bad, they blame whomever is in the White House.

Fox, the blaze, epoch times net, newsmax, et al. They’ve got dozens of unimaginative broadcast blowtorches who are quite happy to blast out the party line talking points to spool up fearful, hateful, uneducated conservative voters.

We come up with crap like “defund the police”, “ban internal combustion engines, and incandescent lights, and non water conserving toilets”. None of these ideological points were presented positively, and they’re draw sticking issues with lots of folks on both sides. I hate the led lights that replaced incandescents. They do not last as long as advertised, their light quality is harsh, they cost a ton more and they don’t work reliably in the cold. Not that big on low volume toilets, and there is no infrastructure up here for EV charging.

The move to ban wood stove sales and gas water heaters in CA isn’t popular. Really, we are as guilty of tone deaf messaging as they are.
