I'm in the "red" state of Iowa. Our caucus is often determinative.
That's why I'm going to switch parties to R and caucus against Trump. I'll likely try to go to party meetings and talk against him and maybe even work on behalf of another candidate....not sure which yet...
I write this after just hearing Jen Saki and Rachel tonight talking about the danger that Trump's candacy has become, particularly in the last 48 hours.
I implore other DUers who are in Iowa to do the same. We can stop him here!

(441 posts)I'm in deep red Texas so voting in the dem primaries is virtually irrelevant for me. But maybe I can do some damage if I vote in the other primary.

(4,997 posts)I appreciate that Christy has been forthright in his comments about Trump, but I don't think he has momentum.
I'm thinking Haley might be a better option.
What do you think?

(15,507 posts)Biden has a much better chance of defeating the Trump, who will be 77 in next year.
Despite all the corporate media BS, Biden would destroy Trump in the general election.

Having said that, if you truly feel like Trump is a unique danger to our nation, then I wouldn't blame you for going any route in your state.

(32,740 posts)I voted in the rethug primary of '22. I felt really disgusted by the entire process and the crazy questions on the ballot to the point where I almost didn't turn in the ballot. Then I was put on all sorts of mailing lists. Received lots of anti-trans stuff, etc.
That said, this is a dangerous time and we do have to be strategic.

If you pull it off you have to give us the nitty-gritty on how it all went.

(4,431 posts)We have no party registration. You can request whichever ballot you want..... when you go to vote. Everyone is 'independent'...
I will see what the situation is at that time....
I did vote in the GOP primary once previously in my life, for John McCain against GW Bush--
later I learned that my father had done the same thing, but we never discussed it previously....

(3,005 posts)Plus, Im not sure well fare better running against someone else. Obviously, the risk if trump is elected is enormous. But so is the risk of another GOPer nominee.

(2,762 posts)Will she be able to withstand all the planning and momentum pushing toward that if she happened to be the nominee and win the 2024 election?
I do size her up as far more reality-based than almost everyone else on the ticket, and unlikely to have her own desire to become a dictator.

(94,787 posts)If the race was close it might be worthwhile, but the polling average has Trump up by more than 20% with two months to go. Nothing's likely to change the race dynamics.

(5,944 posts)A drop in the bucket, really, even in the much smaller bucket of a party primary.
That's what makes "why bother?" the rallying cry of those who refuse to rally, and don't bother to vote at all.
If we only voted when there was a likelihood that our one vote might tilt the scale, we would very seldom vote at all.
The OP is just trying to figure out how to do the most good with that one tiny vote.

(25,908 posts)Democrats I knew registered as Republicans so as to be able to vote in the Republican primaries. About half of them would vote for the craziest R, the other half for the more sensible one. I constantly argued that they should leave the Republican primaries to the actual Republicans, and also pointed out that the reason so few Democrats ran for office was that they looked at those registration numbers and figured, "Why bother?"
I will add that I ran for the Kansas State House in 2004. I lost that election. I was up against a popular, moderate, incumbent Republican. But I did well enough that two years later the Democratic Party realized that seat was winnable, and gave a lot of support to the man who ran for that seat. He won. And he was re-elected. Sadly, the state was becoming more and more right-wing, and so he lost the third time. But I feel very good that I laid the groundwork for him.

(50,318 posts)what they hear about him. Plus, on the odd chance your method worked and Trump didn't get the nomination, would any of the replacements be much better? A couple of them have the "aura of normalcy" and would get voters who might have voted for Biden over Trump.
