It will be the class of 2024 US Senators.
Ruben Gallego(AZ)
Angela Alsobrooks(MD)
Elissa Slotkin(MI)
Andy Kim(NJ)

Slotkin has foreign policy experience.
Before entering elected office(US House) Slotkin was CIA analyst and Assistant Secretary of Defense during the Obama Administration. She serves on the Armed Services, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs Committee in the US House.

my own district...

I think she is our best candidate for the US Senate next year,
but for President there are more likely candidates....

Our Governor Gretchen Whitmer (who I was also honored to support for the Michigan state senate earlier),
is one of them

any votes were cast....

Of course I would support her in any instance where she became the Democratic presidential nominee,
but before such a situation I am afraid my eyes would be cast elsewhere...

For some reason, both of them made your list.

Yet, the actual Vice President doesn't?

Seems rather capricious.

For too long, most here haven't seen your posts because they were in small forums with very little traffic.

Some of them strike me as far more valuable in place where they are, senate seats we definitely can't afford to lose and where there is no guarantee another democrat with less name recognition or appeal might retain the seat, for example. Or a governor in a red state or swing state that can do a whole lot of good there. Others I am remembering from the 2020 primaries where they never could rise out of the pack of 20.

I think we are still way too far out from 2028 for predictions to hold any weight. I have my favorites but my favorites in 2023 may not matter 5 years from now.

Kamala Harris(CA) is the 2028 Democratic Version of Donald Trump without the criminal behavior.
Harris is the frontrunner because she is a sitting or recent former Vice President.
Governors Gretchen Whitmer(MI) and Josh Shapiro(PA) are in the Ron DeSantis category. 2 term Governors from purple states that won re-election by a double digit margin.

Maybe she will prove me wrong, but I think she will have an uphill battle securing the nomination. She did not do well in the 2020 primaries and her popularity has not improved since. But much can change in the next five years so we will have to see.

… I voted for her for State AG. I voted for her for US Senator. I voted for her to be Joe Biden’s Vice President.

Face it — if either Whitmer or Newsom are running ahead, people will find plenty of things “wrong” with them too. I am quite content to focus on this year and next year, because beating Trump in the present is absolutely crucial.
