(92,754 posts)also reflected by the republican polls, indicate that will not change. If it was going to change it would have happened after Jan 6th, and the fact that they doubled down indicate they will stand with Trump to the end
The Republican base believes all the lies pushed by Trump and his cronies, thanks in no small part to the MSM and trumps cronies.
I dont see that changing, and even right wing republicans, such as Liz Cheney, Romney, and Cassidy Hutchinson dont believe that will change before the next election, and I agree.
There is a real threat of violence from rethugs in 2024

(12,897 posts)I mean, if you're not hardcore MAGA, what's the rationale? "Meh, I guess Trump's okay. I voted for him last time, cuz he was the Republican, so I guess I'll do it again. He can't *really* be that bad, can he?"
The GOP thanks you, Republican voters, for your gullibility. Yes, he *can* be that bad, and they count on your incredulity.

(36,528 posts)I don't even want ANY of American culture with his name in it, but if you want a song theme, let it be the Grinch song...
"You're a Loser, Mr Trump...
You're a Liar, Mr. Trump...
You're a fraudster, Mr. Trump...
stuff like that.

(51,813 posts)and the one I made for 2016 featured tRump's green face in stead of the Grinch's with Trump Tower behind him and inside I had a picture of a fruitcake (tRump's as nutty as a fruitcake). I am especially proud of that year's card.
ancianita
(36,528 posts)art, and quite creative of you! There's a level of understanding trump that everyone can see in the grinch who lives to steal what's good, beautiful and true -- not to mention fruitcake, which can sit thick as a brick, and not for everyone. I love it.
Maybe the country will get a Christmas miracle this or next year.

(51,813 posts)I got a return card saying not to send her such terrible misconceptions about her dear leader (really, she did say this). My sister hadn't spoken to her for years since she is a right wing, hypocritical nut. That was the last time I ever corresponded with her even though she continued to send me birthday cards for a couple of years. She lives in Shasta, CA, home of the tRump lovers of the state.

(111,802 posts)but the going rate is 10%-15%, depending on the property. TFG was inflating his crap by a factor of 200=300%, complete with fantasy square footage per floor and stories that didn't exist anywhere but on the paperwork he was showing to bankers.
He was WAY over the line between chisling and fraud. Will it net him jail time? Dunno. White collar crime usually results in fines and slaps on the wrists, white collar criminals being considered somehow more important than petty criminals shoplifting at Kroger.

(36,528 posts)Pretty sure that this civil suit will force huge settlements to the state of NY and banning of any of his or his children's business in that state again.
That state, the financial center of the world, is done with him.
He had to go abroad decades ago to get loans, which took him to mafia Putin and that particular oligarch network. He was totally comfortable with that, given his Cohen training.
He's managed to give business a bad name, and any of his connections with businesses or oligarchs will probably fade away, since they don't want the taint.
I wish he'd die penniless. But eventually his only way to not die poor is to sell off his many real estate holdings in other jurisdictions. Just the upkeep of Mar-a-lago will cost more than he'll be making in the next few years. I mean, who in their right mind would even want to be a member of that club now, right?

It has gone back to what it was before the heady days of rubbing elbows with mobsters and spies while Donny did crooked deals over his two scoops. Now it's all the usual Palm Beach crowd, most of 'em older than god. Richer, too. Just boring.

(36,528 posts)Yep. But his ol' billionaire neighbors don't want their land values to go down, so they won't be having his back. Dark days ahead for fraudfather.

(1,607 posts)As I understand it, the judgement against Trump in NY means NY banks are prohibited from lending money to any of the organizations or individuals named in the suit for a number of years.
Unless I missed it, the only members of the Trump family involved are Trump and Eric, the dumb one.
I can hardly wait for the court to seize Trump Tower and turn it into low-income housing.
ancianita
(36,528 posts)Good points. Nothing should remain in New York with the Trump name on it. Trump's got a mansion in Westchester, but not sure if it's connected to the family business.
It will be interesting to see if his kids even stay in NY after this. Ivanka, Jared and kids live in Noho, I think, and they still have two homes on that billionaire island in FL. Don, Jr & Guilfoyle live in Jupiter, FL, but have a house in the Hamptons on Long Island. Not sure if they'll want to live there, if their money isn't connected to the Trump family business. Eric lives in the Trump Nat'l Golf Club in FL. When Trump Tower is sold off, I imagine Barron's floor might still be okay.
So overall, the family's got their feet out the door, anyway.
HighFired49
(353 posts)Turn it into refugee housing. NYC has been really pressed for places to house refugees sent from Texass, and it seems to me that Trump Tower (and all of his other residential properties) would be a perfect, appropriate place to house them.

(4,741 posts)Because it wasn't a criminal trial prosecuted by the state. It was a civil trial, so it was a ruling in favor of the plaintiff, the person suing him.
It sucks that it wasn't a criminal conviction, but accuracy matters more than our feelings.
