Omaha police officer, 50, dies of cancer

Although I've only worked for the OPD a short time, I've herd nothing but good things about Randy.

Omaha Police Officer Randy Szemplenski, a 23-year veteran, has died of cancer, police said Wednesday.

Szemplenski, 50, was diagnosed with gastric cancer in February.

The diagnosis came three weeks after his wife Janet gave birth to their third daughter. She is a registered nurse at the Bellevue Medical Center.

My deepest condolences to you, his fellow officers and of course to his family......esp. that baby girl who will never know her father...
