12:20 am and Mike Sidel is reporting from Tampa.. Uff da
Tuesday night will be more informative.
Hide from the wind, run from the water. Turn around don't drown.
It only takes 3-4 inches of water to float a car away..

(16,595 posts)All eyes on the weather channel here, too. Ian came almost a year ago and were not wishing this on anyone, believe me, but we are concerned. Take good care and keep safe, mitch

(6,821 posts)This is very reminiscent of Ian's formation. We got 19" of flooding rain (Volusia County) and were never thinking/warned Ian was going to affect us. It flooded my house. Everybody is paying attention around here. Stay safe.

(16,595 posts)And its not only the eye that brings the worst of it as some new residents think..these storms are hundreds of miles wide, as you have experienced. I hope this one is kind to you. Be safe

(13,882 posts)Let me write that down. I was going to run towards the water.
They are ridiculously excited whenever there is a chance of large scale damage.

Ask the Ft Myers beach residents after Ian.
This is why you run. Lots of new people move to Fla every month and just don't get it.
More are killed by water then by wind..
Mother nature is a bitch and does not care about our puny wants and desires..

(13,882 posts)There is one bridge connecting the island to the mainland. I evacuated twice for storms that got close.

(3,146 posts)We're prepping and watching the Weather Channel closely. All the weather gurus came to Tampa at the start for Ian, too, but they were wrong. Hoping this one will not savage our state too badly, but we are certainly in for a crazy hurricane season. If we're evacuated, we're very lucky to have family on high ground in North Pinellas who will give us shelter.
All the best to everyone in the path.

(13,974 posts)A lot better than where I lived in Hollywood/Ft laud area. I was 6 miles from the beach but only 9 feet above sea level.

(12,047 posts)Very warm water, rapid intensification, boom, blows up in a hurry with not much time to react, watch this one closely

(13,974 posts)predicting where and when it would hit was difficult. After being thru a few of these swirly blowy things you come to realize the EXACT place where it's gonna hit might be 50 miles either way.
Friends in Venice Florida were 12 miles north from where Ian did it's dirty work and got nothing. And they were on a canal.. Had no power for about 8 hours...
A crapshoot fer sure..

(16,883 posts)Cantore was set up by the beach in Biloxi. People were throwing things at him and cursing him, as if he were bringing the storm there. Just an example of how irrational people can become when confronted with disasters.

(12,047 posts)Not all canes are monsters, and unless you live right on the water where storm surge can get u the wind alone just a few miles inland is pretty safe.
mitch96
(13,974 posts)no power, no A/C after the storm.
I'll take my chances with hurricanes although they do raise the blood pressure.
Then again if it REALLY bothers me I'll just go visit friends in Maine!!
The unknown of tornadoes and earthquakes I find more upsetting

(5,277 posts)Hope there's no serious damage to you and your area. Be ready with lots of spare batteries and a NOAA radio. Found communication was so important during Ian. Good luck!

(13,974 posts)Not enough to power the A/C but I can cook something while waiting for the power to come on.
Uff pissboy deSatan is all over the weather channel. He will probably blame his failing numbers on the fact he had to take care of his state. Take care of his state rightly so..

Look at the projected path of Ian then where it came ashore. No one really knows till the hurricane is upon you.
Every one in Florida please be prepared & stay safe.

(55,253 posts)Living in an extended stay hotel till I find another home. Now because of this storm & Ian still burnt into my memory, I am rethinking of staying in Florida.
Yes I am not evacuating as far as we can tell we only expect a tropical storm in our area. Our schools though have shut down for tomorrow to see what happens.
