1. Interesting that slowing climate change is an option but ...

preventing climate change isn't.

An acceptance that climate change is inevitable?

All we can do is slow it down, a lot is baked in already.

4. At the rate we are going, the worst is yet to come.

It would take extraordinary measures worldwide to reduce emissions to zero and to also take measures that would reduce the amount of greenhouse gases already in the atmosphere

Our leaders probably realize that can't be done.

8. The change is happening now!

But we still have time to decide to manage the change wisely. If not it's a short ride to mass migration and resource wars. Things like the economy, democracy, and social justice issues require a stable and cooperative civilization. If we slide into chaos we will lose those things fast.

7. wouldn't be at stake

Democracy wouldn't be at stake if white supremacy wasn't leading the charge , who tried to overthrow the government domestic terrorist lead fully and completely by those who are afraid they are losing their power, they embrace , of course racism.
And yes, I know you have a few folks that don't look the part, but ws has them believing some how it's different for them.
nope they are hated just as much but if you're a useful tool they'll use you.
But this conversation isn't going to take place.

WHY I AM A DEMOCRAT

https://democraticunderground.com/100217954571
Democrats have compassion for others.

• When every person
  a. is guaranteed rights, opportunity, and equity,
  b. can make a good living,
  c. is respected,
then all benefit and the nation benefits.
• Government invests in its citizens.
• Labor and innovation create wealth.
• Productivity gains are shared with those who are less blessed than others.
• Government is by the people and for the people.
• The legal system protects rights, especially of minorities.
In short: equality, honor and fairness.

The thugs have no compassion.
They believe that:
• Money and power are concentrated in the hands of a few.
• Business grows by monopoly aggregation and by stifling competition.
• Freedom means no regulation. Nothing more.
• Government enforces "the economic order" (a caste system)
• Workers and voters are kept from uniting, chiefly by a divide and conquer strategy, i.e culture wars.
• Welfare for the rich. The fraud called "Trickle Down" really means "golden showers". (wink, wink)
In short: inequality, arrogance and privilege

or just outrage over imagined/manufactured fears.

Key Issues

Keep government from dictating what you read, your religion and your private life.

• The working person deserves a break rather than welfare for the rich.

• Americans believe in and defend the constitution because no American gains from harming another.

• Protect and expand medicare and Social Security so that health care is denied nobody.

• There is health, wealth and dignity for all when everyone pays their fair share.

• We fight for individual rights where others would deny them.

• America's needs are met by responsive, responsible government rather than contrived and fruitless culture wars.

12. ***VOTING RIGHTS !!!!*** Why even have a poll about this?! There's none of those issues if ...
Sun Aug 27, 2023, 12:18 PM
Aug 2023

... there's no liberal democracy, we've already won but votes are being suppressed to keep issues close otherwise MAGA wouldn't double and triple down on reducing vote access at the lowest levels!.

It's not just a non-white person issue, if all of us can't voter freely then we have to put up with the stupid too long.

Look !!!

America doesn't even rank above the UK (a constitutional monarchy) in democracy index !!!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Economist_Democracy_Index#:~:text=The%20index%20is%20based%20on,hybrid%20regimes%2C%20and%20authoritarian%20regimes.

Texas and Missouri have the lowest voter access in the union !!

https://sanantonioreport.org/surprise-texas-ranks-among-worst-states-for-voting-access/

Can you imagine if there was liberal democracy in those states !?!?

People, without liberal democracy none of the other issues matter logically

13. The Blue Wave happened because of the attack on women's rights and freedoms.
Sun Aug 27, 2023, 12:20 PM
Aug 2023

Yes, all of these are important and saving democracy is important, but there are an awful lot of people out there who don't think democracy is imperiled. Women's rights had support from men and women and young and old.

We don't want our idealism to get in the way of winning, because without winning all of these are in peril.

14. One thing I think needs to be addressed specifically
Sun Aug 27, 2023, 12:30 PM
Aug 2023

Is the crazy cost of groceries. Not as a general “the economy” but groceries in particular. This is a basic need and hits and hurts almost everyone in this country and I think the explanation as to why and who and how (greedy corporations and their shareholders) would get lots of attention. Who knows-it might educate folks to cause enough ruckus for prices to come down!

If Biden is responsible for the decrease in inflation (and NO president alone is that powerful) the problem is feeding your family has absolutely NOT gotten cheaper. If the public are having a harder time feeding their families, they won't be so enthusiastic to go vote for more of the same.

15. We need to restore and keep democracy first.
Sun Aug 27, 2023, 12:33 PM
Aug 2023

It is all important, but the only way any of it will ever be addressed is if we save the right of everyone to have a say.

Edit to add.... "The economy" is a non starter. Rich people worry about "the economy" everyone else worries about enough pay and benefits to get through life without too many financial hardships and leave a little something behind for the kids.

16. Open Free and Fair Elections
Sun Aug 27, 2023, 12:58 PM
Aug 2023

An election system that is beyond reproach so that the next trump can't game it to steal like con45 did in 2016.

Banks have an open counting system that is beyond reproach and questions are rapidly and fairly answered. Banks count billlions of transactions, we need vote counting that is even better than banks.

19. Just a question on this "Preserving American democracy"
Sun Aug 27, 2023, 05:29 PM
Aug 2023

what specific policy would be proposed to do this?

Women's rights is clear, and a proven winning platform, even with the (I) and a good portions of (R) in support

All the others are too much a quagmire for an election.
