Critics are slamming Canadian gender self-identification policies after a trans woman shattered a womens powerlifting record at a recent meet in Manitoba.
On Sunday, trans powerlifter Anne Andres won first place in the Females Master Unequipped category at the Western Canadian Powerlifting & Bench Press Championships.
The category is for female weightlifters over the age of 35 who do not use supportive equipment such as a squat suit. (Its also referred to as classic or raw weightlifting.)
Among several first-place finishes, Andres set the Canadian national record for womens deadlift, in which a barbell is hoisted from the ground to thigh level.

Me, as a skinny autistic spectrum klutz lacking binocular vision and social skills, I was never going excel at any kind of sports.
My parents forced me to play Little League one year and I was the last pick among hundreds of kids at the tryouts. Some mean adult I'd later offended told me that.
I had absolutely no understanding of the joy of sports until I joined a recreational coed softball team in college and found acceptance and celebration of the person I am.
Whenever my bat actually connected with the ball it went really far. The rest of the time, in all my failures, I endeavored to be amusing.
Is sports an amusement or not?
