DeSantiss Florida Approves Climate-Denial Videos in Schools

Florida is the first state to allow PragerU materials in public schools, where teachers will have the option of showing the five- to 10-minute videos in their classrooms. Florida public schools have roughly 3 million students, more than the entire population of Kansas.
In the video, teenager Ania is concerned about climate change because of what she learned at school. The fossil fuel industrys climate-denial talking points are introduced almost verbatim in the trusted voice of Anias mother and father.
Anias parents tell her that the climate has always cooled and warmed long before carbon emissions were a factor and that climate action is pointless until China and India cut their emissions. Ania also hears that renewable energy is unreliable and too expensive.
Ania repeats her parents claims in class and is shunned by her teacher and classmates. Her sadness lifts, however, when her grandfather tells her about life under Nazism in World War II. Ania feels empowered because her grandfather says fighting oppression always takes courage.

(182,829 posts)Not just recruiting but getting them through the eligibility clearing house. The schools are so bad, many universities cant recognize them as accredited. This was told to me by someone deep into college football at schools Board. This was about 10 years ago. Not saying its not DeSantis fault but he started with a mess and has politicized it, weaponized it, and made it worse. All that tourism money is staying in pockets not going to schools.

(14,909 posts)Absolutely the money. The ultra-wealthy bastards for whom DeSantis toils don't want a nation of educated, independent thinkers because they want to keep up the illusion that these aren't the wealthiest times in human history by far. Former Congressman David Stockman (R-Mich.), Reagan's former Budget Director, estimated 7/8th of all the wealth in human history has been created since 1980. Most all of that has ended up in the pockets of a tiny fraction of the top 1-percent, Stockman said, due to the fiscal policies of Trickle Down Economics passed 42 years ago. If people knew how much money the rich have stashed offshore out of the reach of the IRS and the world's governments, they might wonder why it isn't being taxed and used for solving problems from universal health-care to re-imagined energy and economic systems to tackling climate change.

Stockman's influence within the Reagan Administration was weakened after the Atlantic Monthly magazine published the infamous 18,246-word article, "The Education of David Stockman",[7] in its December 1981 issue, based on lengthy interviews Stockman gave to reporter William Greider.
Stockman was quoted as referring to Reagan's tax act in these terms: "I mean, Kemp-Roth [Reagan's 1981 tax cut] was always a Trojan horse to bring down the top rate.... It's kind of hard to sell 'trickle down.' So the supply-side formula was the only way to get a tax policy that was really 'trickle down.' Supply-side is 'trickle-down' theory."[7] Of the budget process during his first year on the job, Stockman was quoted as saying, "None of us really understands what's going on with all these numbers," which was used as the subtitle of the article.[7]

(14,909 posts)Reagan's team kicked him out of the in-group -- Stockman went from a rising star to pariah.
I cannot find the entire interview at 60 Minutes, but the clip from The Young Turks show has a portion (the subtitle generator they use is really rotten)...
The important fact: These are the wealthiest times in human history. And the rich don't want the schlubs to find out.
