In a just world people with Romney's background should be going to jail not running for president

Getting wealthy from other peoples misfortunes isn't something people should be admiring. But a good chunk of the people in our country do admire that. I kind of always suspected this was the case but I had no idea how persuasive this way of thinking actually is.

Depressing, ain't it?

in a just world, power in big businesses wouldn't be so concentrated, and compensation wouldn't be so outsized, and incentives wouldn't exist to trash the long-term in favor of the short-term, and those affected by RELUCTANT but necessary layoffs would be compensated with significant severance and retraining/relocation packages (be it by the company and/or the government).

romney wouldn't have the opportunity to go to jail for what he did because a just world wouldn't make it possible for him to raid pension funds, load up target companies with debt in order to pay himself hugely, then exit as the company goes belly-up.

all trades in capitalism are a combination of legitimate value-add for both parties and illegitimate power-based negotiation, where the stronger party essentially gains a rent for being in a stronger negotiating position. sometimes, management does need to layoff, downsize, restructure, merge, spin-off, etc., and sometimes these things make sense and are legitimate ways of keeping a good thing going or even making it better for all involved. sometimes, though, there's much more wealth-extraction then legitimate value-add. romney seems to have specialized in the wealth-extraction side of the business.
