Des·per·a·tion
noun
a state of despair, typically one which results in rash or extreme behavior.
There are a couple OPs on LBN and GD regarding the defendent's "truth social"post that involves threats against his "enemies list." This came after an anguishing few days for the ex-president. This includes the ghost of the former Mike Pence haunting him.
People may think Pence has been ingesting steroids, as he has made a few luke-warm statements about his role in the new federal case. I've joked on this forum about Pence's absolute lack if charisma. I've compared his ability to stand out among republicans to Yoko Ono's artwork, a glass of milk in a snow drift during a blizzard. But this is the beginning of our seeing the old Mike Pence.
I do credit him for not meeting the defendent's demand on January 6. I also remember him from 1988, after his first election loss, becoming a radio show host. He did so until 1999, when he began his next political campaign. At the time, he was a real Rush Limbaugh-sassy type of guy. He was actually popular with the early tea party about eight years after that. His popularity was rooted in his views of the Constitution and compulsive need to judge others by his rigid belief system.
Pence is an opportunist. And he knows that he has been exposed as perhaps the #1 witness against the defendent. This is a moment he has known would come. He will attempt to boost his campaign from Yoko's art to the relatively impotent republican leadership in exhile, as well to appeal to the pre-maga tea partiers (if any exist). Trump is aware of this.
I told a couple friend on Thursday that the defendent would soon attack Pence. One asked me when I thought this would happen? I said there was no way he could go through the weekend without splattering threats and insults on his truth social bit. The defendent thinks that Pence has joined Jack Smith's team, and he feels betrayed.
Thus, before the weekend officially started, the defendent's "if you come for me, I'll come after you" post. It isn't specific to Pence, of course. But it is as bad as his lawyer going on television to say that the defendent merely picked Option D for breaking the law. It's not just that Jack Smith has already reported the threat to the judge. It's that the judge isn't going to allow the defendent to violate the court's restrictions.
We will see tighter reins placed on the defendent. Yet, because he does fear and despair by venting anger and threats, he will become increasingly desperate. The self-defeating melt-down will increase in pace.

(11,156 posts)Hes more than willing to destroy the Great Experiment in Democracy to save his orange hide.
I often think of the men in the landing boats coming into Omaha and Utah Beaches. tfg is the one cowering in the corner, completely paralyzed in fear. Nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide.
I think he is feeling boxed in to an extent that flight isn't an option. Neither is "freeze," the third option or brain & nervous system provides for ...... although that is definitely what he should be doing. Just shutting up and layi8ng low. But he lacks that ability. One doesn't suddenly master that at age 77. And sociopaths never know when to shut the f___ up!

(33,643 posts)This is why he made his flailing post about the SCOTUS 'interceding', and why he's been hitting up GQP congress critters to come to his aid.
There's always been someone/something could get him out of the trouble he was in, some higher authority like an appeals court, and of course his money meant he could afford good lawyers (not so much anymore).
He's never had to REALLY be accountable, never been stuck feeling like he's REALLY not the most powerful actor in a situation he was in. Or, if he lost, he could take the hit, which was always financial.
He's always felt like he had some angle, some 'get of jail free' card. And he's been right for the most part, up to now.
And possibly he's still right. But let's hope not. Let's hope that, in Jack Smith, IQ45 has finally met his match.

(73,616 posts)Previous cases have all been civil. Even when he lost, he could claim victory.
Anything approaching criminal, he had those people you mention ..... including those he would sacrifice without a second thought.
At this point, however, he is learning what it is like to have someone turn on him. Lots of people who were close to him, that he was more than willing to sacrifice.

(999 posts)In most of the civil cases Trump was able to simply wear the plaintiffs down by constantly filing delays and various motions. He is now up against an opponent that has unlimited resources and knows how to use the justice system correctly as well as counter any of Trumps delaying tactics. Trump can't handle being out maneuvered because he truly believes he is the smartest guy in the room so he is lashing out.

Cheeto Bandito's use of ACCUSING people of nothing specific and no details is LEGENDARY?
THAT THING THAT BIDEN DID, SO EVIL....
I won't talk about, and then talks about it.... without real details on whatever it is, just BS.
To not see through this crap; welcome to being his target audience, his bluster is all for them!
Just get one D or I billionaire to buy up RW radio ads.... THOUSANDS OF THEM, that REPEAT REPEAT for weeks, can undo some damage!?!
Or a fun GOFUNDME project?
I got ideas, just no funding...

The guy is such a sad sack of shit.

(12,875 posts)Of incarceration must be applied.
Can the defendant refrain from venting his desperation in ways that defy court orders? I don't think his boiling rage can remain bottled up for long.
Grab some popcorn for the ensuing meltdown.
And be vigilant for stochastic terrorism.

(73,616 posts)In order to communicate, you have to know the language the other person speaks and understands. Sociopaths do understand incarceration. That doesn't translate to all sociopaths hating incarceration, of course, but the defendent would have a really hard time in such a setting. If you asked me six months ago, I'd have said he won't be incarcerated, just put on house arrest. These days, I'm not so sure.

(73,616 posts)since I had a thimble. I don't remember them being that small.
I find near zero to respect about Pence. Really just that he knew better than join the conspiracy, but not to the degree that Rep. Cheney would as a J6 Committee member. So as close to zero as can be. The Florida guy is just repulsive. He reminds me of a fellow who was in high school the next town over when I was young. He had a big mouth. But he learned to avoid me after our first and only physical confrontation. I remember the guy saying he wouldn't go by the rules of boxing. As if I would! He had not quite finished saying, "You hit me first" when I decked him the first time. It might sound crude on my part, but that same feeling rises up inside me when I hear that Florida shit stain.

(6,849 posts)If Pence harbors any fantasy about emerging as the "true" conservative savior, he'll need to keep his story on page one. The competition for that venue will be fierce over the next year or so.

(73,616 posts)I agree. And I don't think Pence can navigate the media in that way. Maybe for brief spurts.
I suspect Ivanka and the mushroom she married got pardons. I'd like to see them on the witness stand.

(111,110 posts)Pence is an opportunist. You know Trump hates him.
Pence has gotten himself into an interesting situation.
I think his comments were directed at Mike Pence more than anyone else. And just to check the temperature of the Judge, has asked for a 3-day extension on the order.
My guess is that if he were sentenced to two or three days for contempt, and no mass of supporters came to stand in front of the jail for him, then that might have some beneficial effect?
H2O Man
(73,616 posts)I hadn't thought about that. I appreciate that you brought it up ..... I haven't heard anyone mention that before. It might be difficult for his lawyers to really attack Pence, although they might question if his notes are correct.
Even a brief pre-trial incarceration would be a good thing. Yet it won't keep him quiet when he gets out.

(111,345 posts)He didn't give them an argument until they got to the car and he dimly realized the harebrained scheme dreamed up by Eastman and Giuliani wasn't going to work and he didn't want to end up in jail along with them.
That's the extent of his J6 heroism.
As for the Orange Defendant, behavior modification and setting limits are just not going to work, ever. He's a malignant narcissist and will never respect any line he is advised not to cross. His lawyers can't control him and the judge certainly won't be able to. The only thing that will work is pretrial confinement. The only variety of that palatable to his adoring public will be house arrest, give him a mink lined prison.
I'm good with that, I just hope it happens. Even a mink lined prison is still a prison if he wants to go elsewhere and can't.
Great point on whisking him away. Very important. Thank you.
Prison might teach valuable life lessons to the defendent. Of course, it wouldn't, and I cannot honestly say I thought it possible when I typed that. But it is important.
